What does Hades think of you and what does Apollo think of Nico?
I really don't know what Lord Hades thinks of me. I've never met him. But as for my dad-well, that's a story.
I don't know how old I was-maybe ten-when I first met my dad. I was wandering around the forest at CHB, completely lost, when all of a sudden this bright red Maserati Spyder (by the way, sweet car, dad) just randomly appears. And then-I get out.
Well, he looked like me. Except older. And cooler. With longer hair. But still, he could have been my brother-or my dad, I thought. Turns out I was right.
"Hey!" Apollo laughed. "You're one of mine, right?"
I must have nodded, because he grinned at me and gave me a hug. Normally, I'm a real hugger, but I was just so weirded out right then.
"Aphrodite told me to come here," Apollo-Dad- went on. "She was acting really weird, screaming something like 'Solangelo' at me and telling me to go down there and talk to my-" he made air quotes- "'Lovestruck offspring'. Any idea who that is?" He looked down at me. "By the way, uh, son, what's your name?"
"W-Will Solace," I stammered.
"Solace," Apollo mused. (Ha, ha, ha) "I think ol' Aph said that." An invisible light bulb went off over his head. "Yeah, yeah she did!" He looked back at me. "So it's you? You're the-" air quotes again- "'Lovestruck offspring?'"
I stared at him.
Dad sighed. "All righty then. Let's do this the awkward way." He grabbed my arm and pulled me over to a rock. "Sit." I sat.
He sat in front of me. "Do you have a crush on anyone?"
I can't quite remember what I did then, but I do know that I fell off my rock. "I-I-No!"
"Who?"
"I don't!"
His expression softened. "Hey, it's okay. You can tell me."
I shook my head frantically. Let me explain why. I was raised in a really strict Catholic household, and my mom was against pretty much everything. All my life, I'd had one sentence drilled into my head: "Grow up and marry a nice Catholic girl." So when I found out I was...you know...gay, that kind of made me paranoid that someone would find out. I hated myself back then. Back to the story.
Apollo stood up and grabbed my shoulders. "It's okay if it's a guy, you know. Nobody's going to judge you. I've dated a lot of guys, myself."
My legs gave out and I sat down in the grass. Apollo joined me.
"Nico di Angelo," I whispered.
"The son of Hades?"
"Yes."
Dad-it's still weird calling him that- nodded. "He's pretty cool. But stay close to him. He's going to need someone beside him soon." I had no idea what he was talking about.
Apollo got up and walked back to his car. He put his sunglasses on and got in. After he started the engine, he called me over. "Before I go, here." He handed me a wrapped package and then sped off. at the speed of-well, light.
I looked down at the package. It was about the size of my hand and mostly spherical, with something flat on one side. When I pulled the paper off, it was a little bronze ball and a piece of paper. The paper read:
To whichever one of my kids is reading this:
Hi.
This is a light sphere. If you have this, it means you can control light. Trap a bit of sunlight in the sphere, and then whenever you need it, you'll have a light.
Good luck and don't die.
Love,
Dad (Apollo the Most Awesome)
I've had that sphere ever since.
So yeah. That's what my dad thinks of Nico-in a really long story.
