BETRAYAL

Chapter 2- The Couple

As I arrive to my first class, I see Nick with Jessica giving her a goodbye hug. She left and went to Art. A great pain came to my heart as I saw this. He walked into the science room and I followed. Today was the last day we had our seats in science and we would be moving. I sat across from Nick so I was glad to move tomorrow. We had to do the work with our across partner and I couldn't concentrate. The pain and heart break of knowing Nick had found another was too much. He did over half the work himself. The bell rang and I headed for history. I usually walked with Nick but he walks with Jessica now. He would walk me to History then go to PE. Now he just walks with Jess to PE. I felt a tear coming so I wiped my eyes. My classes with Nick would never be the same. Oscar had science with me so after class he ran after me and walked me to History.

"I can tell you're sad about Nick. Was he that big of a deal?"

"Oscar you wouldn't understand. For Nick to be taken away like that is too much to handle. You would've had to have gone through the experience."

"Oh believe me I know just how you feel. It happened to me last year."

I looked at him curiously but it passed. We reached history and we found out there was a test.

"Bummer," I thought.

After history was math. I usually met Nick because he came from PE and we would walk from math. Now he and Jessica walk from PE to math. Sadly those two were in math with me but I had Mari. In math we were also moving seats tomorrow. Thank goodness. Nick sat next to me and Mari across. He kept looking at Jessica and it was too much pain for my heart. We were doing activities in class and whoever did the most got excused to next period early. I grabbed the first four papers and went to work I usually talked with Nick but not anymore. I finished those and got the next three. Mari saw how fast I was working and said," We have a winner."

I laughed and went to work again. Nick was barely on the second paper. He kept passing notes to Jessica. I looked down and let a tear come down my cheek. I wiped it away but not before Marianna saw it. She gave Nick a hard kick in the shins.

"Ow! What was that for Marianna?"

"Get to work Nick. You are barely on the second paper and Vanessa is on the fifth. Stay caught up."

Marianna gave me a thumbs up. I shook my head and laughed. At the end of class it was me who had won. I completed seven papers out of ten. I left class and two minutes later the bell rang. I waited for Mari and we went to Mrs. Singes class. She was the ELA teacher. Luckily it was only

Jessica who was in this class. Nick had History. At the table it was me, Marianna, Sophia, Jasmine, Tracy, and Jessica. We were assigned these tables. The worst part was Jessica was next to me. While we were talking about an activity she kept going on and on about how she asked out Nick. And how they were close. She was so happy she was dating him.

I thought," You're lucky he said yes."

I ended up saying it out loud but it was a whisper. Only Marianna heard me.

"What Vanessa?"

"Oh. Jessica I was just saying how we should be discussing the activity instead."

"Oh right."

Marianna gave a giggle because she knew what I actually said. I gave her a look telling her to keep her mouth shut. She did. When the first four periods passed lunch came. I ran from my class because I saw Jessica walking outside the class door waiting for Nick to come from history. I reached the quad area with Mari and we went to search for our friends. We found them in the MU room a few minutes later but it was too late to run. In the MU room there was Jessica and Nick. As I watched those too walk to a table the flame I had for him went out. Marianna sees my expression change and asks," Are you ok?"

"Yeah," I responded," he's just a boy. No biggy."

But in reality it was a huge deal.
