Chapter 15-Day Off

Yesterday hadn't gone as planned. Tears and feelings were ahead at the loss of two more people in the world.
Today was our day off because of the shootings we were aloud outside now but not to far off. All of my friends lived in the neighborhood so I invited them over. They all came but I didn't invite Nick or Jessica. I despised them. Marianna was already here so we cleaned up a little as we waited for the squad to get here. The first one to get there was Sophia. She came running. Then Luis and Richard came running. I assumed they heard about the shooting and we scared so they ran. Jasmine and Mike got here at the same time. They looked tired.
"We... came... running..."
Of course they did. Oscar, John, and Tracy arrived last.
"Where's Jess and Nick?"
"They aren't coming Tracy."
"Why not Vanessa?"
"Because I didn't invite them Tracy."
That shut her right up. My friends already knew they were outcasts now. 
"Ok kidos I think it's time for me to go over the plans for the 10."
We all turned our attention to my mom. She went over how the guys would stay in Alejandro's room and the girls would stay in my room. She roughly explained how the limit was that guys were NOT allowed to sleep with the girls. She told them to get here around noon and to being a bathing suit, pjs, blankets, pillows, and an extra set of clothes. We were going to go to the park but we decided not to we were going to the movies instead. My mom made sure all the guys knew the rules. The had to bring a shirt for their pjs. She didn't want the girls going gaga over their body. Mari made a gagging face to show my mom how she felt. The girls started laughing.
"Oh Mari you are too funny," replied my mom.
Once everything was set, we all went to the living room.
"Are you guys excited about the dance guys?"
"Not really," replied Marianna.
"I'm excited," I said.
"Oh yeah. John..."
"Yes Marianna?"
"Would (Gulp) you go to the dance with me? As friends."
"Yes. Yes yes yes."
John was super happy he finally had a chance with Mari. The group smiled. Marianna gave me a look because I'm the one that made her. I kept my part if the deal so it was he turn.
"Oscar are you going with anyone?" asked Jasmine.
"Yes I am," he replied.
"Who?" they all asked.
"With Vanessa."
The girls all looked my way and the guys looked at Oscar
"Ooooooo. Oscar and Vanessa sitting in a tree KISSING!"they all shouted.
We all started laughing and Oscar looked my way. He was half he had his chance. I was glad too.
We went upstairs and watched movies in the theater room. Of corse the guys were next to their girls. John tried to sit with Mari and she let him. She was changing too. Oscar sat by me and I lay on his shoulder. The movie was the Sandlot. The boys were so funny. When the glasses boy pretended he needed CPR to get a kiss, Mike have Jasmine a kiss on the cheek. We all teased them about it.
"Mike and Jasmine sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
We all started laughing once again. I went to my room to get my phone and Oscar followed me secretly. Mari saw this and she followed Oscar. I went into my room and accidentally left the door open. He peered inside and saw the picture he gave me in the third grade.
"You still have that?"
I turned around and saw Oscar was by the door pointing to the drawing of us.
"Yeah. I liked Nick but I kept that to show our friendship."
"You were missing your front teeth in the third grade. You looked funny Vanessa."
He chuckled and walked towards me.
Marianna was outside the door and covered her mouth.
When he reached me he brushed through my hair. I looked up at him. He had that sparkle in his eyes the day he found out I was for grabs since Nick was out of the picture. I grabbed his hands and smiled. Things were about to change. He bent down and he gave me a kiss on the lips. He had just won me over. Nick was gone. It was all Oscar now. What I didn't know was that outside my door was my best friend witnessing this. She was laughing on the inside.
I won't lie, I liked that kiss. I'm glad it was Oscar instead of Nick.
I let go of Oscar and remembered what Mari said, No distractions. I grabbed my phone and walked to the door. Before I opened the door Marianna ran back to the theater room. When I reached the door I turned around and said,"No lie, I enjoyed that kiss."
With that I left my room. Oscar stood their smiling in the middle of my room. He looked at all my baby pictures and saw one of me, my mom, and my dad. I didn't tell anyone about what happened to my dad. They just assumed he left my mom. They didn't know the real story except Marianna.
