I woke up and I was slow since my mind was still processing yesterday's events. I got up and dressed in casual clothes. I invited Mari to sleepover and work on the project. She said yeah and came over at noon.
"Vanessa, should we invite Nick for awhile to work on it too?"
"Yeah why not."
My parents were fond of his parents so it was cool. We invited him over and he came. Mari went upstairs to get the materials and it was just the two of us.
"Vanessa."
"Stop right there Nick. I don't want to here anything about liking me, blah blah blah. You are just here to work on the project. Then you're on your way."
At these words Mari came back with the project supplies. We got to work and around 2:30 Nick left. Now it was just me and my girl.
"You are tough on Nick, Vanessa"
"Yeah but he deserves it for what he's put me through. I don't mind a bit."
"That's my girl."
We put the project supplies away and went upstairs. Mari kept talking about how the end of the year exams were coming up and the end of the year pool party with the guys and girls. She was also happy that I was her date to the dance.
"You know Mari you should give John a chance. You'll see he's not that bad."
"I'll think about it but, you have to go with Oscar if I go with John."
"Fine."
Marianna started laughing and she fell to the floor. I joined her because I knew she was laughing about me not liking I had to go to the dance with Oscar but on the inside I was excited. She started reading me but I was ignoring her. All I had on my mind was how the past few days have been hard. Tough times.
"Vanessa?"
"Yeah"
"Were you listening to what I just said?"
"No"
"Vanessa!"
"I'm sorry I just can't stop thinking about Nick and Oscar."
"You have to stop. Exams are coming up and you can't have distractions. It's the end of seventh grade. You have to have your head in the game. After its all over its summer and the pool party with our friends. You can fuss over Oscar then but not right now. Ok?"
"Ok."
"Good."
With this said, we got ready for bed and stayed up watching movies and talking until 12:00.
"Wait Mari?"
"Yeah?"
"Earlier you said I could fuss over Oscar not Nick. How did you know?"
"You two make it so obvious. And the other day I saw him hugging you so that was all I needed to know."
I laughed and gave her a playful push. We both drifted off to sleep thinking about the week's events.
