A Bad Place To Set Up Camp

We rode all night long. By sunrise, we would be on the borders of the Shadow Heart Realm, and the Elven Realm. We were almost half way there.

By this time, Knight and Gary were riding beside me. As we approached Fast Water, the look on Knight's face became more worried and scared by the moment.

I soon realized why. We weren't on the main road anymore. Shadow had lead us down the road Knight had used to guide us to Shadow's castle.

We soon reached the lake where we had seen the wendigo. I don't see why Knight was so scared. It was dead, and for good.

Maybe the place just brought back bad memories.

It was really dark at this point. I noticed Shadow was beginning to slow down. Her horse must be getting tired.

She turned her horse around to face us all. Everyone stopped.

''We'll be stopping her for tonight. After you give your horse a drink from the lake, set up your tent. Don't forget to feed your horse too. And do be careful of water serpents.''

She turned Forest towards the lake and walked it over to the water's edge. Half of us followed her, while the rest of us set up our tents.

I got down from my horse and walked it to the water. It was almost shimmering in the moonlight. There weren't as many trees, so the stars were a bit more visible.

As my horse was getting a drink, I looked across the lake. There wasn't anything on the other side. Other than more forest of course.

The lake was very beautiful at this hour. I could see a few splashes, but that was all. I looked over at Shadow.

She was slouching. A thing she barely ever does. She must be really tired. We all were. I noticed she also had bags under her eyes. She could barely keep them open by the looks of it.

I walked over to her.

''You look really, really tired. You should get s good night's rest,'' I said to her.

''That's exactly what I plan to do. Would you mind tying Forest to the tree right next to my tent? And make sure he has a bucket of hay close enough for him to reach.''

''Got it.'' I led Forest over to the tree Shadow was talking about. I tied him to the tree. I could hear Shadow and Jeffrey talking in the background.

''Here, let me help you to your tent.''

''Do I look like I need help to you?''

''I just want to make sure you don't collapse on your way.''

''I may be tired, but I still have enough energy to throw you in the lake.''

''And I have enough energy to swim back out.''

''You won't be able to swim back out if your tied up and attached to a rock.''

''I bet I could get away from you. I seem to be more awake than you.''

''I'll be sure to do it when your sleeping, so you can't get away.''

Jeffrey shut his mouth after that. I saw Shadow sluggishly make her way to the tent. I didn't want to make her more angry so I left her alone.

I yawned. I was pretty tired. Might as well get some sleep.

I was glad to see my tent wasn't next to the tent full of noise makers.

I snuggled down in my sleeping bag with Fluff and Lilian, and happily went to sleep.
