I woke up in the middle of the night to faint footsteps about 5 feet away. I opened my eyes to see a short figure walking out into the forest. As I wiped the sleep from my eyes, I saw the figure also had wolf ears and a wolf tail. It was Shadow. Where would she be going at this hour?

I waited to see where she was going. She walked off about 60 feet. There was a pond. She sat down right next to the pond, and just looked up at the stars.

Something was wrong. I just know it. This doesn't seem like a thing she would do. She enjoys her sleep, and it's almost impossible to get her up. Well, without food.

I got up, and slowly made my way towards her. I didn't want to wake the others.

As I got closer, I could see Shadow's face a bit better. Her face looked the same in the pale and bright moonlight. She still had the scratches and bruises from the other day.As I got even closer, I could see the tears in Shadow's eyes.

I froze right in my tracks. Why would Shadow be crying? Nothing could make her cry. She was basically had a stone heart when it came to sadness. Something would have to very horrible to have Shadow, of all the people, cry.

I walked up right behind her. She didn't seem to notice me. A tear ran down her cut cheek.

''Are you okay, Shadow?'' I asked, standing right next to her.

She sniffled and rubbed the tears from her face.''Yeah. Why are you even up at this hour?'' She didn't look at me when she spoke. Just at the stars.

''I heard your footsteps. I opened my eyes to see you walk and sit down by the pond. I just came to see if something was up.''

She sniffled again.''It's nothing. Just go back to bed.''

I didn't want to make her angry, so I obeyed. I still couldn't find out why Shadow was crying. It'd be best not to ask.

As I curled up in my sleeping bag, I could still see Shadow sitting by the pond in the bright moonlight, staring at the stars.
