Three weeks after the accident, Zach was recovering from his injuries, but I had something different I had to worry about. I had to worry about my relationship with Samuel. Zach was staying at his friends house so his friend could take care of him. My parents went out of town and insisted on me staying with Samuel.
I packed my bags and headed over to his house. His grandmother was the nicest woman, I always loved going to her house when Samuel and I were little. Plus his sister Genevieve, was the nicest little girl, we got along well too.
I knocked on the front door and Genevieve answered. "Rosie!" Genevieve exclaimed and hugged me. "Genny! I've missed you so much!" I called her by her nickname. "I've missed you too! Do you want to see my room?" She asked and tugged on my arm. "Genny, don't bother Rosie!" Samuel demanded. "It's fine, we haven't seen each other in forever!" I assured.
His grandmother walked through the hallway door and smiled, "Rosalina-Bianca Lawson, is that you?" "It's me, Grandma Lela!" I responded and hugged her. "The last time I saw you, Samuel was being a jackass, and cheated on you." Lela remarked. Samuel scratched the back of his head in guilt and interrupted, "Let me take your bags up to the room." "Okay, thank you. It's kinda unnecessary for me to stay here since I'm seventeen years old." I added. "Oh, honey! The more you call yourself 'old', the more likely you are to get wrinkles before your thirty! Say 'of age', darling!" Lela joked. Genevieve and I laughed.
I followed Samuel up to the guest bedroom. He set them beside the bed and asked, "Do you need anything?" "No, I'm fine." I replied. "Well, I might go to the store later." He added. "Okay, I'll try to think of something," I responded, "Is there anything I can do around here or for your grandma?" "No, I think if anything, you postponed her heart attack for at least a few more weeks." He joked. I laughed and responded, "You've had a pretty tough year, with your mom and everything." "I feel like it was my fault. She was on her way to pick me up from my aunt and uncle's." He explained. "It's not your fault, Sam. It was the other driver's fault! I'm so sorry, Sam!" I assured and hugged him.
A few minutes later, I went into Genny's room. "Hey!" I said. "Do you like my new room?" She asked. "Yes, I love everything about it!" I replied. "Will you braid my hair, please?" She asked. "Yeah, of course." I replied.
I sat on her bed and braided her hair. "Why'd you and Sam break up?" She questioned. "It's complicated, Genny." I answered. "What did he do?" She asked. "He hurt me, not physically, but emotionally." I replied. "It's okay, grandma says he's a jackass either way." She said. "Genny, you shouldn't say that word!" I responded and laughed. "Did you love him?" She asked. "Yeah, I loved him a lot." I replied. "Do you still love him?" She asked. "Well, I care about him a lot. No matter what happens between Sam and I, I'll always care about you, and Grandma Lela!" I assured. "I'll always care about you too! You're my favorite person!" She said and hugged me.
Sam walked in and exclaimed, "Hey, I thought I was your favorite person!" "Grandma says it's not nice to eavesdrop." Genny responded. "Grandma also says I'm a jackass but I think she's wrong about that." He teased. Genny and I looked at each other and said, "Ehhh... She's kinda got a point." He laughed and asked, "I guess I'm going to the store now. Do you need to go anywhere, Rosie?" He asked. "Yeah, do you think you could take me to Zach's?" I asked. "Sure." He replied.
Sam and I got into his car and drove off. "So, how long have you and Zach been a thing?" He questioned. "A little more than two months." I replied. "I just want you to be happy, Rosie. Really, we've been friends for the longest time, and it doesn't have to be weird with us. We were friends before we were together." He explained. "Well, that was kinda ruined when you cheated on me. That's exactly why I just wanted to be friends. I knew you had commitment issues, and I knew how your past relationships ended, but I wasn't thinking. I really wish it could go back to the way it was but I don't think it can. I will always care about you but I've moved on. I am happy now and I want you to be happy too. I don't think we'll ever be able to be best friends like that anymore and that's what hurts the most." I argued.
When we got to Zach's friend's apartment, Sam stayed in the car. I walked up to the apartment door and knocked. Zach opened it and said, "Hey, babe!" I hugged him and said, "Hey." "Come in!" He insisted.
I walked into the apartment and sat on the couch. "I'm staying with Samuel at his grandmother's house, my parents insisted. I told them I would much rather stay with you but they said I had to stay with Sam. If that bothers you, I can find a way to not stay there." I said. "Oh, yeah, I guess it's okay." He responded.
"Sam and I are just friends, you know that, and his family is like my family. We just talked about this on the way over here. I'm always gonna care about him but I don't love him anymore. I love you and I intend on keeping my promise." I assured. "I know and I trust you. That's one reason why I love you. All the other reasons, I guess you'll just have to find out." He said. I laughed and kissed him.
