"You have no business being here, young man! You need to leave!" Jackson's mom yelled at Zach.

Jackson's mom was a nice woman, but she was pretty rude whenever someone messed up something she thought was supposed to be perfect. In that case, it was her son's wedding.

"I'll leave when Rosie tells me to leave," he stated respectfully. Everyone turned their eyes from Zach to me. The pressure I felt at that moment was unimaginable.

Jackson or Zach? I repeatedly asked myself in my head, even though it was a dumb question.

Jackson turned to me and whispered,
"You're seriously going to leave me for him, on our wedding day, at the altar?"

"I need some air," was all I could say. I walked right past Zach and through the church doors.

Zach followed me outside and said,
"Let's go! We can runaway and go wherever you want! I quit the band, so you don't have to worry about me not being there. I will always be there for you."

I began crying.

"What's wrong?" He questioned.

"I can't do this," I responded. That was a lie, I knew I could just go with him. Jackson came rushing out of the doors and asked,
"What the hell is going on?"

"She doesn't want to marry you," Zach spat at him.
"Who does she want to marry, you?" He rebuked in an insulting manner and laughed. It seemed as if they were about to hop on horses, pull out their swords and joust for my "honor."

I started walking to my car when they both asked,
"Where are you going?"

"I can't do this! Jackson, I'm so sorry, but I can't marry you. Besides, we're just not right for each other." I explained. He nodded disappointedly and went back inside the church.

"But, Rosie, we are perfect for each other!" Zach added. After I stood there, crying and not saying anything, he handed me my old promise ring. I came to my senses after a minute or two. I dropped the ring on the ground and stepped on it, crushing the small diamond.

"Why'd you do that?" He questioned confusedly.

"I'm done making these dumb promises. Fuck promises, in fact. If we can just be together, we don't have to make any promises. Let's just go," I replied. A huge smile crept onto his face.

We got into his car and drove as far as we could. Not a single word was spoken the entire trip, but we both felt so utterly euphoric that it didn't matter if the last few years made sense at all.

Our destination was an empty beach. We chased each other down the shoreline as I fell for him all over again.
