SHE STARED BLEARILY down at the ring adorning her left hand, blinking quickly as tears threatened to block her vision. He took everything from me, she thought bitterly, but he couldn't take his damn ring. Allison shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut tightly as she clamped her hand over her mouth to muffle the sob she felt approaching.
Allison leaned her head back, feeling her head smack harshly against the bathroom wall. The girl shook her head, her hair becoming staticky from the friction. She took in a stuttering breath, small sobs escaping her mouth as she struggled to breathe normally.
She splayed her hands out on the wall behind her, digging her nails into the paint in attempt to regain control. Allison felt her feet slide against the tile flooring, causing her to hit the floor harshly. She moved her hands to place her arms around her knees, trying to provide some sense of comfort. Allison laid her head on her knees, nuzzling her nose onto the fabric of her sweat pants.
The girl snapped the hair band around her wrist, flinching at the sting, but finding that it distracted her slightly from her sadness. Allison opened her eyes, the chocolate irises locking onto her wrist as she snapped the band again. She flinched again, not liking the stinging feeling that the band gave her.
"I love you, sweetheart."
Allison flinched again, moving her hands to cover her ears. Her shoulders shook with an upcoming sob. She cried out, feeling wetness slide down her cheeks and drip down her jaw. She placed her head back against the wall, running her hands through her hair and gripping it tightly as she took stuttering breaths.
She coughed as she struggled to breath through her heavy sobs. A whine escaped her lips, followed by another choking sob. "No, you don't."
Allison shook her head, feeling more tears drip onto her neck. She wiped at her face, which was sticky from the tear tracks. Allison inhaled deeply, moving her hand to her throat as she wiped at the tears there. She exhaled just as deeply, continuing this pattern until her breathing was back to normal.
The girl felt her heartbeat still skyrocketing against her ribs, the rapid movement almost painful in her chest. Allison leaned forward, placing her hands on her knees and moving so that she was crouched on the balls of her feet. She puckered her lips and gently breathed out, before pushing her hands against her knees and rising to her feet.
The first thing Allison noticed was the red tear tracks along her cheeks as she faced the mirror upon standing up. The second thing she noticed, was how red her eyes were. Her chocolate brown irises seemed almost black against the red background surrounding them. She blinked and reached up to rub them, hoping to return the white color to them. Allison stopped, catching sight of her wrists in the mirror.
Allison's wrists, as well as part of her forearms, were red and painful looking. She looked closer, studying that red lines that ran along her limbs. Allison placed her other hand on her arm, and found that if she splayed her fingers, the marks lined up with her fingernails perfectly. The girl drew in a surprised breath. She hadn't realized that she had been clawing at her wrists as she cried.
Allison shook her head, leaning forward and placing her abused hands on the marble counter. She hung her head in front of the mirror, seeing dark curls cloud her vision as her hair fell in her face. She rolled her lips, tapping her fingers gently on the counter.
The brunette raised her head to look in the mirror again, staring at herself. She took in her eyes, noting the sadness and desperation in them, and she noticed that her laugh lines seemed to be disappearing from around her eyes.
