Days droned on and before I opened my eyes, it was Friday. Within those five days however Mr. Simons became like my best friend who is a teacher, even if he was a creep, I could tell anything to him. Meanwhile, Jack just ignored me. Did I do something wrong? Was he embarrassed that
Mr. Simmons read the note?
While in the bandstands, Jack talked to me. The first time in a week. I'm assuming it was magical because my heart nearly froze over and exploded.
"Do you have an extra reed?" shouldn't be a question I died over. Damn, I had it bad!
The rest of the game between us was only filled with the angry screams of our supporters. It was disappointing for me and for the loss of our football team.
Just as I was able to put my saxophone away, Chris drags me to her dad's , Frank's, car. I did not have a chance to speak before Jack was shoved in beside me. It was weird to say the least.
" Alright love birds," Chris explained as the balding Frank drove " here is $40, I expect change! And BTW Jack that note you wrote was adorable!" Staring at him from the corner of my eye, he was still in shock as I was to have any reaction.
The car pulled up to the theatre as Christina literally pushed us out of the car.
"Call us for a ride home cutie pies!" she screamed. I wanted to slap her until she turned fifty three shades of purple. As quickly as we arrived, the blue van twisted through the parking lot traffic leaving two children standing under the movie theater lights.
"So what movie do you want to see?" he asked awkwardly trying to break the ice. Turning toward the theatre my eyes grew in excitement.
"Despicable Me 2" we both said at the same time laughing.
After buying tickets and poopcorn, yes poop- corn because it tasted like shit, we settled down in the middle of the theatre. It was nearly empty with no more than 7 red chairs filled in the icy room.
I shivered at the cold. Sensing my near frostbite from the fall draft, he gave me his jacket. It smelled highly of him: sweet pine and Gain laundry detergent.
The lights dimmed and the movie began. It was quite adorable and hilarious. Near the end I noticed I leaned into an arm around my shoulders. Warmth spread where our bodies made contact making my heart nearly jump from my chest and into his arms.
The sad part would be I wouldn't mind letting him hold my fragile heart, but weird to give it to him to begin with.
As I was about to savor the moment, credits filled the screen causing Jack to stand up to offer me a hand. Gratefully taking it, he lead me into the chilly Autumn air.
We were greeted by a blue van with Frank and Christina. The ride dropping Jack off home was quiet except for Chris's desires and begs for details. She is such an irritant bug buzzing in everyone's lives.
Once returning to my own house and room I plopped on my bed realizing a pine smelling jacket around my shoulders. I smiled to myself only to be stopped by the ringing of my cell phone.
Wade.
Not in the mood to have my nearly perfect night ruined, I pressed ignore. Hopefully, it wasn't anything important.
