"Jack?" I ask in disbelief.

"Yeah." He says in a stubborn ,obvious tone while helping me to my feet.

"I though I was the only one here." I reply picking up my case.

"Here allow me." Jack carefully took the case from me while I walked out of the closet. "I was out in the hall practicing, I didn't want to disturb you."

"Oh." I mutter to myself moving to pick up my bag. He practically rushed out of the closet and picked up the drum I knocked over.

" Your arm!" Jack says frantically. I look down to see the blood has now started to flow over my backpack strap.

"It's nothing, just a scratch."I shrug nonchalantly. He marches over, removes yellow my backpack to the floor, while pushing me on to the piano bench.

"At least let me do the favor of helping you out." Jack states walking over to the desk in the corner of the empty blue room. He opens a draw and pulls out a first aid kit.

How could he be so sweet? I wondered to myself. I shook myself out of the thought and back to reality where a beautiful blue eyed boy kneeled in front of me dabbing my arm with disinfectant. I tried not to wince with pain, but then again, I am a wimp.

Afterwards Jack gently placed a bandaid on top.

"All set." He sounded contently.

"Thanks. " I managed to get out before grabbing my bag and moved towards the door. I walked out without another word.

As much I wanted to stay and worship him, I had no choice but to leave. "Girls were not meant to woe, but be wooed." my old teacher said."Just remember that when you get older."

And Mr. Herbert was right. If Jack really liked me, he would make the first move.

Plus, I was stubborn a didn't want to seem desperate.

And before I knew it, a blue eyed Blondie fell into step beside me as I walked down the empty hall and outside into the beautiful Autumn air.

I was walking home with Jack!

Well at least that's how I saw it. He lived in the same direction as I do and I guess he would rather walk with me than alone

Still, it is progress.

We talked about the small things:

School, teachers, weather, band, breaking into our own houses, while the only silence among us was comfortably filled by passing cars.

It was beautiful.

He was beautiful.

His golden hair flopped down right above his eyebrows when the wind rested. His blue eyes shined with contentment that made my heart beat like a crazy drummer. This setting yellow sun shone against his dark jeans a gray T-shirt while creating shadows along the white sidewalk.

Why did he have to be blessed with such beauty?

We continued on a straight path down the street slowing when we got to my block. The walk went too quickly for my liking.

Waving a depressing farewell, I walked home as Jack continued down the hill.

Entering my house, I let out a sigh of wonder and awe. My mind was clouded when I heard shouting from the kitchen.

"Yes! Of course she can sweetie!" My mother was sitting with a man at the table. She looked overjoyed.

The man mirrored her smile with his eyes gleaming as bright as the the lights shining on his bald head. His heavy fat rolls jiggled under his too small shirt when he laughed and a horrid smell wafted into my nose. The only way to describe it would have to be a silent fart mixed with a dumpster outside a diner.

Frank.

My mom's on again off again ex-boyfriend. I assumed they were together.

I held my breath and entered the yellow tiled kitchen to raid the fridge.

"Kate!' My mother snapped "Where are your manners? Can't you see we have company?"

"Hello Frank!" I mumbled with my mouth full of apple.

"How are you doing kiddo?"Frank questioned but all I did was shrug and turn to the door.

"Ahem!" My mother coughed for my attention. I faced her with a sour look. "Yes mother?"

" This weekend while Frank and I go to... um.. a business trip" she continued without obviously noting I caught her disgusting lie. " Christina will be coming here. No one should be alone on the weekends"

Frank pulled her closer with his arms on her waist and winked in my direction. My mother giggled when he spoke "You would know Sharron."

Quickly rushing out of the kitchen, mentally cursing while holding back gags, I matched upstairs to the comfort of my bedroom.

Even if my weekend was sure to be hell, at least my Hump Day was fantastic.
