~You are Mark's ex-girlfriend- you guys broke up just a few months after he started youtube and have only talked once since then. 

But now, you have decided to go back to Ohio to visit your family for Christmas and to celebrate the New Year with a few friends.

*Christmas Afternoon*

As I was having a wonderful time with my family and talking to my mom whilst watching a few of my nieces torture my brothers with make up and other pretend beauty projects, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket- but since I was in mid-conversation with my mom, I decided to ignore it. I felt two more buzzes until I decided to excuse myself to answer the texts. As I stood up to answer the texts, I saw the face of my closest friend and her name pop: "Hey Molly."--"Hey what's up?"--"Nothing much, just hanging out with my family, you?" 

I as listened to her response I held up one finger to my mom and then pointed outside, telling her I'd be back in just a few minutes. As I stepped outside the cold Cincinnati breeze hit me like a ton of bricks as I thought to myself, 'Weather like this makes me miss the summer trips to Hawaii when I was little.'

"(Y/N) Hello!"--"What? Oh, sorry... I was stepping outside for a minute. What did you say?"--"I asked if you wanted to come over to our house for a little New Years party?"

Without even thinking of the consequences it would have, and just wanting to get back into the heated living room, I agreed, "Yeah... Yeah, I'd love to. Just text me what time to be there and if I should bring anything . But I uh- I actually have to go. I'll talk to you later Mol"-"WAIT!"--"What? WHAT!?"--"It's going to be very, very formal- black and white as well. So dress nice!"--"Alright. See you then."--"Merry Christmas, ya scrooge." I laughed at her joke, "You too. OH! And tell Wade I said hi?"--"Will do, bye." And with that, we hung up and I rushed back inside and continued my conversation with my mother. 

"What was that about, (Y/N)?"--"Molly invited me to her's and Wade's  New Years party."--"Oh, that's nice. Who will be there?" I was actually surprised Molly didn't tell me who, so I just answered with, "I don't really know. She said just a few close friends." One of my brothers, Adam, must have over heard that and asked, "What if Mark is there?" 

I sucked in a quick breathe when he asked that- just hearing someone say his name made my blood run cold. 'We haven't talked in years.' 

Before things got awkward I opened my mouth to say something. "What do you mean?"--"I mean, what if Mark is there?" I looked around the room thinking of something to say. My family thinks that I'm over him and our break-up, but honestly.... I'm not and the only one who knows this is my mother. "I don't know... he'll be there. Like other people would be there."--"Okay, but I mean, you guys were toge-" My mother cut him off, "Who wants hot cocoa?"  My nieces stood up and rushed into the kitchen, where the rest of the family was hanging out. My mom looked at my brothers, "Jeremy, Adam... go make the girls some hot chocolate please." And with that they stood up and walked off into the kitchen.

The moment my brothers turned the corner, my mom look at me and gently grabbed my shoulders, "Will you be okay, sweetheart?"--"Mom, I'll be fine.... just, stop making it seem like I'm still heartbroken. It was a mutual break-up either way." She pulled me into a seated hug, "Well, what kind of party is it?"--"Molly said black and white formal... very formal."--"Well then... why don't you go buy yourself a nice, black dress and show him what he's missin'." She winked at me- my mom always knows how to make me feel better. I pulled her into another hug and muffle into her winter sweater, "Thank you."
