I smiled to myself. Today was pretty darn good for being stuck in a hospital. Kate’s doing great, her parents look better rested, and I go to see my best friend again. I know that sounds cheesy but I hadn’t seen any of my friends in a while, well at least those that weren’t patients, since I’ve been here. Not to forget, all my friend from school were now in college and had no time to visit. And Little Mix are quite busy preparing for their upcoming tour and wrapping up their album. Yah, it definitely got lonely in the hospital. and I’m not saying Kate is boring. She just has her chemotherapy sessions and she is only twelve and I’m eighteen. Quite an age gap. Hanging with her is still quite fun though. I walked into my room and immediately smiled. My parents, siblings, doctors, and nurses were in my room. Which also made it a bit crowded.
“What’s going on?” I asked. The last time all these people were in my room was when I woke up from surgery. And was told that I had cancer.
“We have something to tell you.” My mum told me, nervously playing with her hands.
My eyes grew big and I immediately began to worry. “My cancer is worse, isn’t it?” I said with a sigh.
“Oh god no!” My grandmum burst out laughing.
“Then why are you all here?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“We’ve got a surprise for you!” My sister smiled at me.
“And you really deserve it.” My brother winked.
“Okay, then out with it!” I complained, impatient.
“Well, this our last night here.” My dad said grinning.
“Wait....that....that means...I’m?” I stumbled. I’m pretty sure my jaw was wide open and my eyes were probably bulging.
“You’re cancer free!” The main nurse, Elsie, smiled, grabbing my shoulder.
“The clinical trial worked?!” I gasped in disbelief.
“Exactly. You’re our first survivor out of soon to be many.” My neurosurgeon smiled.
“And the chemotherapy?” I asked.
“It worked as well.” Luke smiled.
“Congratulations!” I squealed as I hugged Giles, my neurosurgeon.
“Congratulations to you too Amie.” He laughed.
“Come here honey!” My mum said as she held out her arms.
I smiled and hugged her. Mum began crying, finally out of happiness, a first since a while. My dad even joined in, a rare moment. He was crying! He hated crying in front of people. I gave him a hug as well then moved onto my grandparents, giving both of them giant hugs. Both my grandmum and granddad were smiling from ear to ear. My sister smiled and gave me a quick hug then began texting. But I couldn’t help but notice that my sixteen year old sister was smiling too. My brother gave me a huge hug along with his wife, who just happened to be one of the nurses on my case and at this hospital as well. The nurses and doctors all congratulated me and slowly all left. After about twenty minutes, the room only consisted of my family, Leila- my brother’s wife-, and Elsie.
“We also wanted to let you know that Kate is also cancer free.” Elsie smiled.
“No. Way.” I said in pure shock. “No way!” I smiled.
“You can see her tomorrow.” Elsie informed me, patting me on the back. “Her family is just learning the news themselves so they will be there awhile.” She nodded and left.
“Hey, we’ve got to go hun, but congratulations.” My granddad looked sad to leave but he hugged me tightly anyways.
“We love you so much Amie baby.” My grandmum squeezed me in a hug, using the nickname they had called me since I was one.
