**UPDATE on that snow thing: we acctually broke it and had I think 14 snow days? We had to go to school for I think 3 more days**
3 hours, 3 resale stores, and One Direction’s album Up all Night played through twice, I had finally sold all of the clothes and shoes, earning about £5,000. An insane amount of money. The majority of it I’d be using for house bills and such. Now, I was on my way to my parents home in Rumford. I had already ate lunch from McDonalds. How classy of me. Please note the sarcasm. Despite my cheap meal, my day had gone by quite nicely and I couldn’t wait to be in my parents house. Speaking of which, I was only ten minutes away from their house. Apparently Raina had rearranged things around, and took over my old bedroom. None of which bothered me, I was just eager to see what my little sister had done to my room. Speaking of Raina, I hope she will be home. I didn’t exactly check if it was a school day or not. Heck, I don’t even know what day of the week it is. I probably should have at least made sure that they’d be home...but it was too late to call and make sure that they were because I was pulling into their driveway. My heart fluttered. I had grown up in this house and it had been so long since I had last seen it. I turned off my car and walked out, making sure to lock the doors behind me. I kept my phone, purse, and keys with me, everything else in the car. I checked the garage door but it was locked as usual. I knocked on the front door, wishing I knew where the spare key was as the door proved to be locked as well. It didn’t take long for the door to be opened. To reveal a woman in her mid 30’s looking at me confusedly. Not my mother. And she didn't look like anyone I knew. Not a neighbor or a family friend. And I had no aunt or uncles..... and she definitely didn't look like anyone in my family with her long platnium blonde hair and her petit hourglass figure.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” I blurted out immediately. “My parents use to live here and I just…” I wasn’t even sure what was going on.
“Ah I see.” She nodded. “I’m Ella Jein, I bought your parents house. Your parents moved into an apartment three blocks away.” Ella explained.
“They moved?” I asked, concerned. If I had been drinking water, I probably would have spit it all over the poor lady I was just that shocked.
“You didn’t know? They moved about 3 months ago….”Ella trailed off. “I can give you their address, come on in…..what did you say your name was?”
“I’m Amie.” I introduced myself as I walked into my home. Or what was my home. “Thank you.”
“No problem.” She nodded as a dog, I presumed a cocker spaniel, scurried over to us. “That’s Riri, she will leave you alone once she smells you.” She laughed as she did exactly that then scurried away, her tail wagging happily, collar jiggling. “Your parents told me that they had a daughter in the hospital, I never really asked why or if she was alright. I assume that’s you.”
“Yah, I had brain cancer.” I said simply as I looked around at what use to be my house.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" I heard her say, beginning to ramble something off but I drowned her out, I just hate the sympathy.
Everything seemed different, almost unrecognizable. The walls were now a pristine white instead of the assorted browns we had, the furniture was replaced as well. Instead of our chic white clothed couches and matching chairs, there were black leather couches and a foot stool. The wall that use to have our family photos- mainly us goofing around with each other, very few of them serious- was now plastered with photos of Ella, a man looking about her age or maybe a bit older that I assumed was her husband, a gorgeous little girl that looked to be about 6 years of age with long curly blonde hair like her mother-assuming it’s Ella- and bright blue eyes that she must have gotten from her father, and in a couple of photos that were obviously professionally taken, the little girl was hugging Riri, grinning ear to ear. Their photos were clearly much more serious than ours had been. As I followed Ella to where the kitchen was, I had noticed that my Tumblr worthy room had turned into a pink princess paradise. Clearly, the little girl had taken over my room. And apparently, Riri had now taken Raina’s. That was a little shocking to me. I mean, does a dog really need their own bedroom? But the change that hit me the hardest was the fireplace. It use to have tons of photos of my siblings and me,goofing around, none serious whatsoever. It was the part of the house that all of our friends and the rest of our family absolutely adored. But now, it was simply decorated with a wooden cross. Nothing else. I’m not sure as to why I thought that our photos would still be there. I just assumed that it would be the one thing that would never change. And clearly, it had. My house was no longer mine. The house I had grown up in and loved. And it completely sucked. Now I needed to know why my family had moved. And why they didn’t tell me.
“I’m guessing that it looks a lot different than when you saw it last.” Ella spoke as she opened a drawer and began to dig through it.
“It is.” I nodded. “Do you know why they moved?” I asked.
“No idea.” She shook her head. “They really didn’t tell you.” She shook her head. “There’s got to be some real good reason.” I heard her murmur.
“I like what you did to the kitchen.” I pointed out, they had simply replaced all of our outdated appliances with new ones.
“Yah, the old appliances weren’t too nice.” She laughed a bit.
“It took double the time to cook anything but my father insisted on keeping all of it.” I chuckled.
“Alright, here it is.” She passed a sticky note to me. “They gave it to me in case we found anything else that was theirs.” She explained.
“Alright, thank you.” I nodded. “Do you know how far away it is?” I asked.
“Not too far, a block or two down the street. Probably a ten minute drive.” She shrugged. “I lived in London before moving out here in Rumford so I don’t exactly know the surroundings.”
“Okay, thanks again.” I shook her hand awkwardly and walked myself out briskly.
I quickly unlocked my car and sat in the front seat. Why would my parents move?! Our house was perfectly fine besides all of the outdated appliances. Looking at the address she had given me I immediately frowned. Apartment 10. They had moved into an apartment...but why? If anything they would have moved into a smaller house with two bedrooms, ours did have four. But why would they move into such a small place? I sighed as I buckled up and backed out of the driveway and made my way down the street. One of my friends in grade 7 had lived in this apartment complex before she moved to Ireland with her father. Maybe my family was just needing a place to stay while purchasing a smaller house. That would make sense….but I’d know the answer soon as I parked my car in the visitor parking spot and walked up to the apartments. I opened the door and walked over nervously to the women that was manning the desk. I had no idea if she’d let me in.
~Stay strong my darlings, you are truly beautiful inside and out~
