Jace gets off the phone still angry from whoever he was talking to, and tells me that he has to go to work for a little bit. He dresses casually in jeans and a black t-shit, and I put on my wrinkled dress from the night before.
He drives me home, but before I can get out he grabs my arm and pulls me back toward him. The kiss starts out slow and gentle, but soon escalates. He pulls me over the counsel and on to his lap, so I'm straddling his waist. My hands tangle into his unruly hair, and one of his hands goes to my butt and the other goes against my back, keeping me pressed tight against him. Our tongues clash together, and we're both fighting for control when his phone starts ringing. He pulls back, and runs his hands down my waist slowly. "I really have to go," he seems annoyed by what he says, but running a billion dollar company can't be easy.
I nod and he squeezes my hips. "I'll call you tomorrow, and we can finish this," he says, gesturing with his eyes at our bodies and thrusts his hips into mine once.
I smile, and start to get off his lap, but he pulls me back down and his hands tangle in my hair to pull my lips back down to his. Just as he works me back up again, he pulls away. I narrow my eyes and he smirks.
Still straddling his waist, I reach over and grab my purse from the passenger seat, and push open the driver side door.
"Bye," I tell him as I open the car door.
"Bye, Jasmine," he says, and with that I walk the short distant to the front doors quickly. I head upstairs to my apartment, and jump when a hand wraps around my wrist and pulls me to a stop. I turn around quickly, and I'm relieved when I see it's Asher. What is he doing here?
"What are you doing here?" I ask him.
"So you didn't read my texts then?" I knit my eyebroes, confused. What texts?
I pull my phone out of my purse, and they're are several text from Asher. The last one saying I'm coming over.
"No," I tell him.
"Where were you?" he asks as I put my key in the lock and swing open the door.
I ignore his question and walk inside, but leave the door open behind me, so he knows he can come in.
"Where you with Jace?" he asks.
I spin to face him. "That's none of your business," I snap. After a pause, and in a calmer voice, I continue, "Let's go over what you came here to do."
I'm suprised when he quickly agrees and we go sit on the couch. We go over price and he seems happy by the amount he has to pay, and then I tell him he can move in Tuesday or Wednesday this week depending on when the Apartment Complex approves him.
It's a little after noon when we get done talking, so I make us each a turkey sandwich. We eat in silence until Asher says that he has to leave, so he can start packing up the rest of his stuff from his ex-girlfriends house. I nod and walk him to the door. I tell him I'll call him tomorrow when I get the approval, he nods and says bye before I shut the door behind him.
The rest of my Sunday passes in a steady cycle of homework, e-mailing, eating, and texting Angela, and before I know it, it's already midnight, and I have class tomorrow. I go to bed exhausted and fall asleep almost instantly.
-------------------------------I wake up to the sound of my phone dinging, and I'm instantly annoyed because it's not my alarm clock, and that means I still have time to sleep.
I grab my phone from off my dresser, and pull it out of the charger. I see that I have an email from the apartment complex. I smile. That was fast.
I click on the notification and I scroll through the email looking for the word approved.
I finally find the word approved, but it has the word not in front of it. WTF?
I scroll to the bottom and quickly start scanning. Blah blah blah... I'm sorry to say your request has been denied... and I stop reading there.
I dial Asher's phone number. It rings and rings, and I'm about to hang up and call back, when he picks up. "Hello?" he says, his voice groggy.
"What the hell Asher! I thought you said you weren't a felon?"
I hear some shuffling in the background before he responds sounding much more awake. "What are you talking about? I'm not."
I roll my eyes. "I just got an email back denying my request for you as a roommate."
"What?"
"Don't play dumb Asher. The only reason they would deny it is if you had a record or something."
"Jasmine, I swear I don't," he says, his voice sounding panicked, and for some reason I believe him.
"Then why would they-," I stop talking when it hits me. Jace. He'll be able to tell me why. I almost forgot he's the owner.
"I'll call you right back."
He starts to protest, but I have already hung up. I click call by Jace's name.
He picks up on the second ring. "Jasmine?" He doesn't sound at all like like he just woke up, even though it's only 6:45 A.M, instead he sounds wide awake and sexy as hell as he says my name in a deep voice. I rid my thoughts of his sexy voice and get back to the problem at hand.
"Why did my roommate request get denied?"
On the other end I'm greated with silence. "Jace? Why didn't it get approved?"
I finally get an answer, but it's not one I wanted to hear. "Because the owner of the Apartment Complex denied it."
But he's the owner? "But you're the owner, so why did you deny it? Does he have a record or something?"
"Not exactly," he mutters.
"Then why?" I ask impatiently.
His voice suddenly sounds cold as he says, "Because, I don't want a guy who just wants into your pants to be living with you."
I open my mouth to speak but no words come out. I try again. "No he doesn't," I tell him with not much conviction behind my words, but I need the extra money, and I know Asher won't try anything while he's living with me.
Still sounding angry he says, "I'm a guy. I know when a guy wants a girl, and he wants you."
I completely ignore what he says and tell him, "I need the extra money, Jace, and I can't find someone who can move in right away," I say in hopes he will understand that not all of us are rich.
"I can help you find a roommate before the end of the day," he tells me with such certainty that it pisses me off.
"No, Jace. You're not going to find me another roommate because you're going to sign the damn approval."
"Don't count on it," he says driely.
"I'm going to count on- Shit.", I stop mid sentence as I see the time on my phone; I'm supposed to be leaving in 20 minutes.
"What's wrong?" Jace asks, his voice laced with concern.
"I have to go, I'm going to be late for class, but this conversation is not over," I warn him.
"I'll pick you up and we can talk about it at your apartment," he says, putting emphasis on the word your.
"No. That's not what I meant." I don't want him to come over, or I'll be distracted by.. well him.
"I'll see you then. Bye Jasmine."
"No. Don't hang-." But he hangs up before I can finish my sentence, leaving me with the sound of the dial tone.
