P.s.~ I just posted another chapter in my new book, in Xander's point of view. Check it out if you want.
Once we get to the car, I tell Jace everything. How Tobias showed up unexpected, our brief conversation, and even about ignoring his call. Jace's hands tighten around the wheel at that, but otherwise he seems to be taking what I'm telling him pretty well.
"That's all..."
He nods his head. "Okay," he says.
"Okay?" I ask, expecting him to say more than just "okay".
"Okay," he repeats.
We sit in silence for a few seconds before he continues like I knew he would. "If he shows up at your work again or if he tries contacting you anyway, I want you to come to me right away, understand?" He starts talking again before I can answer. "And if he touches you, hurts you, or makes a pass at you, all promises are off."
I'm hesitant to agree. "But-"
"No buts. This is non negotiable, Jasmine. I will not stand by and let him try to take you away from me, and I won't hesitate to kick his ass if he hurts you again."
He glances over at me, waiting for my response.
"Okay." If it ever came to that, I would let Jace intervene, but for now I don't want him doing anything.
"And I don't want you staying by yourself until he leaves . Also-"
"Okay, okay," I interrupt him and put a hand on his bicep. "I'll stay with you until he's gone," I reassure him.
Satisfied by my answer, his hands loosen on the steering wheel, and he turns his attention back to the road.
-----------I'm sitting on the kitchen counter with him in between my parted legs. "I have some work to finish up," he mumbles against my mouth.
My legs wrap around his waist and pull him closer. "I only need five minutes," I promise and move my fingers to the zipper of his jeans.
He grabs my hands and puts them behind my back, so I can't touch him. "As tempting as you are, I still have to say no."
I scowl and he smirks. "I have to tie up some lose ends before we leave in two weeks," he explains.
Sighing, I give in. "Fine."
He lets go of my hands, and I reluctantly unwrap my legs from around his waist.
"Can I come watch?" I ask.
Cocking his head, he gives me a curious look. "You want to watch me work?"
I nod.
"I don't think that's a good idea," he says.
"Why not?" Does he not trust me?
"You distract me too much."
Oh.
"Please, I promise I won't distract you." He shoots me a look. "I'll just sit there; no talking."
He's hesitant to agree, but finally he says, "Allright, no talking though."
I zip my lips and throw away the key. He rolls his eyes at that, and I follow him upstairs to his office.
As he grabs a key from the top of the door frame, I realize this was the one door I couldn't open when I went "exploring". I wonder why he locks it?
I follow him in, and I'm blown away by one large window that covers the entire far side of the wall.
His desk faces the window, and something about the setup makes me thinks he sits at his desk, with the city below him, and watches as he builds his empire up, one hotel at a time.
"It's beautiful," I tell him as I watch the faint outline of cars and people blur past as they go about their day.
"Yes it is." When I turn to look at him, I find he's staring at me; he tears his eyes away and takes a seat at his desk.
"I don't know how long I'll be," he says after a few minutes, maybe thinking I'll reconsider my decision of watching him work.
"I'm staying," I tell him, standing my ground.
He shrugs in a have-it-your-way sort of way.
I watch from the window as he gets absorbed into the computer and several stacks of paper on his desk. His eyebrows knit in concentration, and his hand runs over his slightly scruffy jaw.
Wanting to be near him, I walk over to his desk and at the last second decide to sit on his lap rather then the couch next to him.
His eyes widen in mild suprise, as his focus goes from the paper on his desk to me. "What are you doing?"
"Sitting," I say innocently and lay my head against his chest.
"I think you're trying to distract me," he says, running a finger along my arm.
"I can move-"
His arm wraps around my waist abruptly. "No."
I hide my smirk, and he gets back to work.
He takes two phone calls, the first one I'm actually scared for the person on the other end, but after I place a calming hand on his arm he seems to lighten up a bit. The second one is all numbers, and since I'm a business mager, I'm able to follow along pretty well. It sounds like he wants to put up a hotel in Dubai, but the price they're asking for the land is too much.
After a heated ten minutes, Jace finally gets the guy to move down the price, and he seems in a much better mood once he hangs up; his hand mindlessly runs back and forth across my waist.
When he leans down and nibbles on my earlobe, I know he's done with work for now.
"I'm going to make one more phone call." I inwardly groan until he continues to say, "I want you naked and waiting in my bed when I get back."
My breathing hitches as his hand wonders under the waist band of my jeans but then pulls away.
"Hurry," I tell him as I move off of him.
He smirks. "Yes ma'am."
