Chapter 13
Blinking at the ‘cookies’, I didn’t know how to react. Get angry or laugh? When I heard Jackson’s laughter I knew that it was the best reaction. I started laughing too.
“What now?” Jackson asked.
“Watch a movie?” I suggested.
He chuckled, “We need to finish this.”
“We tried our best and look what happened,” I gestured to the gooey content of the plate.
“We really suck at this,” he said.
“Obviously.” I replied. Then we burst into fits of laughter.
I suddenly stopped laughing and gasped.
“What? What? What is it?” Jackson asked frantically.
“Calm down,” I rolled my eyes at his behavior “You’re so dramatic. I just got a thought.”
“I am not!” he complained crossing his arms over his chest.
“Uh yes you are,” I said in a ‘duh’ voice.
“Whatever. What’s your idea?”
“We should’ve video-taped the whole thing! I’m sure Ms. Jen would’ve enjoyed watching it.”
“I’ve already taken care of that,” he smirked at me.
“You did?” I asked stunned.
“Yep,” he said standing up and walking to the fridge. He raised his hand and grabbed a small camera from the top of the fridge.
My eyes widened. How did I not notice it there?
“It was there the whole time?” I voiced my thoughts.
“Yeah, you can be so unobservant sometimes.” he shook his head, an amused smile on his face, “I knew something like this would happen so I put the camera up there.”
I scoffed, “I am not unobservant. Now show me the video.” I said excitedly.
He brought his chair closer to mine and played the video on his small camera. The whole thing was videotaped. We both laughed at our reactions when we took the plate out of the microwave. Jackson’s green eyes were wide and I just stared at it blankly. When the video came to an end we both raised our heads, still laughing. We stopped abruptly when we noticed how close we were. His face was inches away from mine and my bare thigh was touching his. He gently put his big warm hand on my thigh while leaning in slowly. My breathing hitched as I watched his every move. We were in kissing distance now. I couldn’t think properly, I couldn’t move. Heck I couldn’t even breathe!
When our noses touched, Jackson jolted backwards as if something hit him. His hand left my thigh and something flashed in his eyes but I didn’t know what it was because he turned away. Thank god he couldn’t see my flaming cheeks.
I didn’t know what I was feeling. Was I disappointed that he didn’t kiss me or was I relieved? Maybe a bit of both, I concluded.
I didn’t know what to do or say now. He was avoiding my gaze and playing with his fingers. I didn’t like the tension so I stood up hastily making his head snap up.
I started walking out of the kitchen but he didn’t follow me. I turned around and said,
“Are you coming or should I watch T.V by myself?”
His eyes went back up, meeting mine. Was he staring at my…?
No of course not. I dismissed the thought but when I saw him shaking his head trying to get rid of some thoughts, I wasn’t so sure anymore. I decided to ignore it as we walked out of the kitchen.
