Chapter 39

As soon as we were done looking at my pictures, the doorbell rang. I trotted down the stairs and opened the door to find Jackson.

“Hey,” I greeted him.

He smiled at me and gave me a bag in which there was a gift. I was about to close the front door when I saw Ashley coming. I kept it open and waited for her. She grinned at me and gave a gift. I hugged her and smiled.

We all sat in the comfortable living room and talked for a bit.

Lucas suddenly stood up and said that he wanted a glass of water. He walked to the kitchen and after a couple of minutes he came back holding four chocolate chip muffins with a candle in each one.

All three of them sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and I smiled at them.

“Make a wish,” Ashley said.

I wished to have these three people in my life forever and I blew out the candles. After we each ate a delicious muffin, Jackson announced that it was time to open the gifts.

I took Ashley’s gift first. I opened it and took out a beautiful blue shirt. I quickly recognized it as the shirt I saw the other day at the mall but I didn’t have time to buy it because the shop was closing and the saleswoman wouldn’t give it to me.

“Thank you!” I squealed and hugged her.

She smiled at me and said a quiet ‘You’re welcome’.

I then took the bag that Jackson gave me. There were two gifts in it. I took the small one first and tore the sparkling wrap.

‘Cook Book’ was written on it with big letters. I burst out laughing and soon everyone joined me.

“Someday Ade, someday we will be able to cook.” Jackson said firmly but we both knew that the chances of this happening were slim.

I held his second gift which was larger than the first one and opened it. I gasped when I saw the beautiful white ice skates.

“I saw these in a shop the other day and I knew they were perfect for you,” Jackson said and I hugged him tightly.

“Thank you,” I whispered and he ruffled my hair.

Lucas then gave me a small red box. I eyed it carefully not knowing what’s inside it. I slowly opened it and my eyes widened as I stared at it.

Inside was a beautiful silver charm bracelet. I stared at it awestruck by its beauty.

“Wow,” I breathed out. Lucas took it from the box and gently placed it around my wrist. It fit perfectly. It had four charms on it.

One was a smiley face for happiness.

One was a four leaf clover for good luck.

One was two ice skates symbolizing my passion.

One was a red heart for love with the letters L and A carved on it.

I kissed him and he smiled against my lips.

“Thank you,” I told him when I pulled away.

“You’re welcome, Anna,” he smiled at me and my heart skipped a beat.

“Movie time!” I announced as I jumped off the couch. I got the DVD and put it in. The title ‘In Time’ flashed on the screen.

I pressed play and the movie started. A smile formed on my lips as I sat with some of the people I love the most and just watched a movie.
