“Happy Birthday!” Allie screamed when Nate answered his phone.

“Awh! Allie your gift of deafness is the sweetest one I’ve gotten!” Nate laughed.

Allie grinned to herself, picturing the smile on Nate’s features. “Are you having fun?”

“Yes! I missed mum so much! It’s so good to be home! And Liam made me breakfast in bed this morning and it was never ending!”

“Sound’s like your kind of birthday! Have you been doing much? Or, has it just been a lazy day?”

Lazy? I’ve been dragged everywhere! It’s supposed to be my Birthday, but these idiots are using it as a chance to sight-see!”

Nate didn’t sound to Allie like he was the slightest bit irritated that he had been forced into tourist activities for his birthday, if anything he sounded more enthusiastic about it than he had about the breakfast in bed. She could imagine that Liam would be pleased to see Nate so happy.

“I miss you guys already! How’s the boyfriend?”

“Mine or yours?” Nate teased.

“Can you feel that?”

“You’re giving me ‘the look’, aren’t you?”

“A few short weeks and you already know me so well!” Allie giggled.

“Liam is wonderful, he hasn’t stopped smiling since we got here. He’s worried about our children, though.”

“Don’t worry.” Allie rolled her eyes. “The fish are fine. And the other guys?”

“Zach and Lucas are a little tense, they had an argument I think. But, they must have made up this afternoon, because they’re fine now. And Hannah is just being Hannah!”

Allie felt a little uneasy hearing about Zach and Lucas, neither of them had mentioned it to her. Did that mean they were okay now? Or had they mutually agreed not to bring her into it? She didn’t want to come between them.

“That’s alright, I suppose.” Her phone beeped at her, “Oh I have a call waiting, I feel so popular! Anyway, happy birthday again, Natey! Love you!”

“Oh! Love you too! Bye Al!”

Allie ended the call with nate to take the one waiting. “Hello?”

“What are you doing right now?” Rob’s happy voice sounds through the receiver.

“Oh, hey. Umm, nothing? Just sitting around at home, did you have something in mind?” Allie was surprised to hear from him, but she still felt pleased.

“Pizza?”

Allie thought it over quickly. She had nothing better to do, and some company would be nice. “Yeah, alright. Just text me where to meet you?”

“Deal! See you soon!”

Allie hung up and pulled on a new pair of jeans and grabbed her hoodie and keys on her way out of the room.

“I’m going out, I’ll be back later.” She said to her father as she walked passed him.

“It’s a school night.”

Allie froze, and turned to face him. He wasn’t looking at her, he was frowning at his paperwork. That was the only concern he’d shown for Allie in a long time. It wasn’t much, but it was a lot more than she had learnt to expect.

“I’ll be home by ten.” She told him with a quick glance at the clock, it was almost six then.

Allie’s father nodded. She wasn’t sure what to do. She hesitated a little but then just took her purse off the table by the door and muttered a goodbye.
