Jen was ecstatic the next morning at school. Before she left, Lucas had asked for her number and the two had spent most of the night in each other’s company. Alex just sat beside Allie with raised eyebrows, staring across the lunch table at their friend.

“I don’t get what’s so special about him.” he muttered under his breath.

She wasn’t supposed to, but Jen heard his comment. “Of course you wouldn’t! Pretty girls flirt with you every day!”

“I still don’t get it.” Alex shook his head and Jen hit him.

“Hey, hey! Careful with the goods! I still have to meet this Zach kid, I need to approve of him and say he’s okay for our ickle Allie.”

“Don’t you have other friends to annoy?” Allie groaned.

Alex sent her his signature smile, “I do actually, so I’ll catch you girls after school!”

“You like him.” Allie stated when Alex was gone.

Jen sat and watched Alex weave his way through the cafeteria to another table full of his friends. She blushed a little at Allie’s observation.

“Who, Lucas?”

“No. Alex.”

At first, Jen was hesitant. Then she sighed, “You know how the quiet girl notices the beautiful popular boy in the movies, but he never noticed her, and then someone or something comes along and changes that?”

“He never noticed you before?”

Jen shrugged, “Not enough, now he stops in the hall to hug me.” she smiled wistfully at the table top.

“You know, in all those movies, the girl gets the boy.” Allie winked at her friend.

“Do you think I could?” Jen looked again over to the group of boys that now included Alex.

“I got Zach Anderson; apparently that’s a pretty big deal. Anything’s possible.”

Allie rushed ahead of Jen and Alex to the front gates of the school and flew into Zach’s arms, knocking him backwards. He smiled and nuzzled into her hair.

“Hey baby,” he murmured.

Allie pulled away and planted a chaste kiss on his lips, “Hi.”

“Is this him?” Alex asked from behind and Jen elbowed him for lack of tact.

“Zach, this is Alex” Allie introduced.

Zach smiled and held out a hand, which Alex shook, eyeing him suspiciously.

“You gonna break her heart?” he asked bluntly and Jen elbowed his again while Allie’s palm flew up and hit her forehead.

“I don’t plan on it, and if I did, I have four mates who would rip my head off.” Zach smiled, dropping Alex’s hand.

“Make it five.”

Allie glanced at Zach, smiling sheepishly; she could tell he wasn’t intimidated but he took Alex seriously. Allie shifted her gaze to Jen and gave her a smirk, to which Jen answered with a questioning glance.

“I know I said I’d hang out, but I need some quality time with this one.” She jerked her head towards Zach.

“That’s okay; we’ll have just as much fun without you.” Alex swung his arm around Jens shoulders, “Won’t we?”

Biting her lip, Jen nodded hurriedly. She shot Allie a death glare when Alex wasn’t looking and Allie just winked at her, taking Zach’s hand in her own.
