Allie stayed quiet on the other end, but at least she’d answered. At least she wasn’t hanging up. Still, Zach felt like it wasn’t good. He felt like such a dick, he didn’t deserve her, and she didn’t deserve the shit that would come to her along with him. Zach was selfish, and even though he knew he was more than likely not good for her, he wanted Allie. He couldn’t help it; each time he thought of her his body went crazy.

“When are you coming back?” she asked finally.

Zach let out a breath, he hadn’t realised he had been holding in. Relief flooded through his body as she spoke. All his friends were still staring at him, waiting to see what would happen.

“Saturday, you know that… So tomorrow.”

“But when on Saturday?” she pressed.

“Uhh... Liam? When are we getting home?” Zach glanced up as he addressed his friend.

“Plane get’s in at about nine-thirty, then it’s about a half hour drive.” he said.

“About ten.”

“That’s at night?” she asked.

“Yeah.”

“That’s like thirty hours away. I miss you.” she whispered the last three words.

Zach’s heart leapt, was he forgiven? “I miss you, too.” he told her.

His friend’s faces erupted in grins, hearing that Zach was saying it back, understanding that he was (more or less) forgiven. And Zach couldn’t keep the smile off his own face either.

Allie sighed heavily. Zach wished he could be there, holding her in his arms. He wanted to see her face, see her smile.

“Did you get my apology...?”

“It was the most embarrassing moment of my life Anderson!” she cried.

“I’m sorry,” Zach told her, but he wasn’t, not really.

“It was also sweet, but you can’t do it again! I got in trouble for disrupting the class!”Allie’s words faded to laughter then.

Zach loved her laugh, it was beautiful. Everything about her was beautiful. Was he falling for her? Could he be so quickly? Yes. Who wouldn’t? Was it too quick? Yes. Did he care? No. He loved the way she made him feel.

“Zach?”

“Huh?”

“You just kind of zoned out there buddy...”

Buddy...? A feeling of unease swept over Zach. Did she feel the same?

Liam tapped his wrist, indicating it was time to go. Zach frowned slightly but he nodded at him.

“Hey I gotta go, okay? We need to get on a train to get to Nate’s dad’s place.”

“Oh, okay. Give my love to the others.”

“Thanks Allie, I’ll see you soon,” Zach smiled wistfully to himself.

“Not soon enough.”Allie muttered.

Zach wasn’t sure if he was supposed to hear her or not, because she then said goodbye and hung up. He frowned a little at his phone. He was forgiven, so that was a plus, but he had no idea what Allie was feeling towards him. The contradicting way she spoke to him was enough to send any guy insane.

“So are you two okay?” Nate asked.

Zach nodded slowly, letting a small smile form, “Yeah, I think so.”
