Maddie's POV:

I was walking down the empty hallway lead in from my room to to the main entrance. I was wondering if Severus was okay..well....I was actually just worried. I haven't heard from him in a long time and it was a week before classes started again. Some of the teachers have came just to visit Dumbledore and myself over the summer. I was happy that Mcgonagall came and saw me; she's probably my second best friend, after Severus of course. As if on cue an owl came flying down towards me with a letter in its beak. I too the letter and the owl flew off back into the sky.

Dear Maddie,
I'm so sorry for not writing you back, but I wasn't home. I had to do some things for Dumbledore; you know how he is. Also, Lucius wanted me to tell you he misses you. I think he said something about coming to Hogwarts to visit you sometime; you never know what he's going to do though. I hope you're doing well, and I can't wait to see you when the school year starts back up again.

Love,
- Severus

I smiled at the letter and really really wanted him to be back right now. I transformed into a raven and flew off into the sky towards the astronomy tower. Over the summer I met up with some guy to help me with my powers; I can't even remember the guy's name to be honest. I learned how to transform into many different animals such as a raven, dog, cat, owl, and one two others I've learned on my own. Those just happen to be a dragon and a griffin. I've been enhancing my healing powers with assistance from Hagrid along with the guy who helped me with transforming into various animals. Dumbledore spoke with Hagrid and told him I wanted to strengthen my skills, but Dumbledore knew I was capable of magic that even he wasn't able to perform. I mastered the art of being able to do spells without saying them and being able to use my hands instead of a wand. I'd say I was making great progress, but Dumbledore always likes to tell me I'm behind schedule in my training. Once I made it to the astronomy tower I turned back into my human form and took in the beautiful view I had of the grounds. I heard a chirping noise coming from a little ways away, and when I investigated there was a half dead bird laying on the floor. I put my hand over it and concentrated hard on healing the small creature. When I looked down it was completely healed, and it soon flew off. I smiled and stood up as I dusted my pants off. "Maddie." I heard a voice say, which startled me. I whirled around to see Lucius Malfoy. "How long have you been there?" I asked him curiously. "Long enough. Anyways, how have you been?" He said with his smug and arrogant way. "I've been well, how about yourself?" I said. "Fantastic even though I've missed you coming to dinners with Narcissa and I." He said. "I'm very sorry about not staying with Severus, but Dumbledore had things for the both of us to do." I said as kindly as possible. "I understand, that old fool has everybody else do his dirty work." He said, which made me slightly mad. I made sure to hide my emotions, just like Severus and I told each other many years ago. 'Control your emotions, discipline your mind.' "I've gonna word that you've been getting stronger Maddie, and I was wondering if you'd like to join me in an endeavor." He said, and I knew exactly what he was going to suggest. "What's that?" I asked curiously. "Would you like to become a death eater?" He asked curiously. "Um...I don't know Lucius." I said. "Severus has joined us long ago, come on Maddie. Do something that's going to change the world. Stop holding onto the end of Dumbledore's robes for once in your life." He said with passion in his tone. "I'll have to think about it, this is a big decision Lucius. You're asking me to go against everything I have grown up knowing." I replied. "Very well, of you refuse do I have your word that will not speak a word of this to anyone?" He said in a questioning tone. "Absolutely." I said. "Good day to you Maddie. Make sure you chose the right side." He said before he left. I never intended in becoming a death eater, especially since I have the mark of Thana. If I were to join Voldemort then I'd have another mark to hide from everyone here at Hogwarts, not to mention hide my first mark from Voldemort and his followers. 'Don't ask Dumbledore's opinion on this Maddie, because he'll want you to join to gain Lucius's trust even more.' I said to myself. "Hang on." I said out loud. 'If I refuse to join the Death Eaters, but let Lucius believe that I'm helping them then Lucius and the Dark Lord wouldn't suspect me or Severus.' I said to myself. "Sometimes, I'm surprised how amazing I am at being deathly silent." I heard the silky voice I've been missing like crazy. I turned around and saw Severus standing there with a smile on his pale face. I ran up to him and wrapped my arms around him in a close embrace. He wrapped his arms around me as well and pulled me even closer, if that was possible. "Where have you been?" I asked him curiously. "Well, I've been tolerating Lucius and his son for the majority of the summer break. I wish you were there to get me out of going to public events." He said with a slight laugh. "He actually just left. He wants me to become a death eater." I said. "Maddie, you can't. I won't let you." He said pulling away from me to look in my eyes. "Severus, I was never intending on doing so. I will make him believe I'm on his side though." I said. "No, no, no, make it obvious that your on Dumbledore's side, so I can act like I'm getting the information from you. Lucius knows how much you trust me and how loyal you are. Besides, he thinks you actually enjoy his company." He said with a smirk. "What can I say, I've learned from the best." I said poking his chest. "That you did, but in all honesty we've learned valuable lessons from each other." He said tucking a stray strand of my hair out of my face. "That we have." I replied. "Come on, let's get some lunch." He said as we walked down the twisty staircase. "What have you been up to over the summer?" He asked as we walked towards the great hall. "I've been doing some magic training. Dumbledore wants me to be at my strongest this year. At least...that's what his explanation was." I said. "How have you done that exactly?" He asked me curiously. "Well, It's a long story but I'll tell you tomorrow when we have some free time." I replied. "Good. I can't wait to see what you're capable of." He said with a wicked smile on his face. I had no doubt he was probably going to challenge me to a duel with him. Unbeknownst to him, I've learned how to make my own spells; and there are a lot of them. After dueling him I'll probably teach him how to use them, especially since the Death Eaters are rising. That dream I had last year with Voldemort in a baby's crib was a sign that he was getting ready to come back. I had to make sure my friend was well equipped to face him head on. Unlike me and the other wizards and witches here at Hogwarts, Severus would be in the snake's den. "Severus, when did you get here?" I heard Mcgonagall ask from behind us. We stopped and faced good old Mcgonagall. She's been a very good friend to Severus and I over the years even though Gryffindor and Slytherin are rival houses. "I got her a few minutes ago." Severus replied. "That's wonderful; at least you're here early." She said with a slight smile. She hated it when we were late last year, and I did too. I hate being late to anything really. We walked into the great hall together and everyone said their hellos. "Where's the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?" I asked curiously. I heard that Mad eye Moddy was going to be the new teacher, and I knew this was going to be a rather interesting. Especially since this year Hogwarts was hosting the Triwizard Tournament along with the Yule Ball. "Are you excited about the Triwizard Tournament?" I heard someone ask curiously. "I think it'll bring a lot of exciting things here to Hogwarts." I heard Dumbledore reply. "Why are you wearing Aloe Vera infused with Lilac root?" Severus asked me curiously. The only reason he finally smelled the ointment I was wearing is because I put a little extra on it today. It's been hurting more since I started training, but I was determined to become stronger with magic. "I'll tell you after lunch." I said. No I would have to explain everything to Severus today instead of tomorrow. I tried to figure out how to explain the mark on my wrist, but honestly...all I had was the truth. All I knew was that I received the mark in a dream; I had no idea why. After we finished eating and making small talk Severus and I went to his classroom to get everything dusted off and organised. "So, are you going to tell me your secrets?" He asked as we both sat down and had a cup of tea. "Remember when I was having those nightmares and how Lily started visiting me?" I asked. "Yes." He replied. "Well, in the first dream she visited me I received this." I said as I rolled my sleeve up. It was glowing like the very first time I got it, and I wondered if it was a sign. "That's the mark of Thana." He said with wide eyes. "I know. I don't know why I got it, but it just...happened. I've been hiding it ever since to try and figure out why I received it, but I know nothing." I said as he gently inspected the red skin over my wrist. "Does it always glow like that?" He asked curiously. "No, it did when I first got it, but it didn't last long. It just started glowing a few weeks ago; it was hurting more when I started magic training also. I just put more ointment on it, it works great." I said. "I think Lily gave this to you so you can channel your inner strength and powers." He said as he gently pulled my sleeve back over it. "That's not the only thing that was in that dream. An infantile You Know Who was there too. He's coming back Severus, and I think that's why Lucius wants me to join." I said. "Maddie, you need to learn how to use your clairvoyance to your advantage. It could help us a great deal if he does come back." Severus said softly. "That's what Lily told me." I replied. A sad smile went across his face. I knew how much he misses her; it's just like how I miss my parents almost. The only good thing, is that he and I have each other. That's all that matters now. "So, what have you been learning over the summer?" He asked curiously. I turned into my raven, then the owl, cat, and dog before I turned human. "Wow. Can you turn into anything else?" He asked with a sparkle in his dark eyes. "Yes, but I can't turn into them indoors." I said, which made his jaw drop. "What on earth can you turn into?" He asked, genuinely interested. "A dragon and a griffin." I replied. "Come here." He said taking my hand as he lead me out of the classroom. "Where are we going?" I asked him curiously. "Outside so I can see that dragon and griffin." He said with a big smile. I couldn't help but smile; I was always happy when he was. Once we got outside where no one could see us I turned into my dragon, which is black with amber eyes. I then turned into my griffin; it was black, but the eagle head was a dark gray. My griffin had green eyes. My eyes change with every animal I turn into, for example: my dog eyes are a gray looking color, my cat eyes are light blue, and my raven eyes are black. "Let's go back inside I wanna duel with you." He said with a smirk on his face. I turned back into my human form and we headed to the D.A.D.A classroom. "Are you ready?" He asked taking his dueling stance. "Yes." I replied. He shot a few spells at me, and I deflected them with ease. "Very good, now. Let's see if you can defend yourself against a death eater." He said. I knew he was testing me to see if I could survive a death eater attack. He knew as well as anyone else that a war was coming, and it would be the light against the darkness. He started shooting spells at me left and right with almost no break between them. I was blocking them and I even sent a few back at him, but he blocked them as well. He had a moment of hesitation, which allowed me to use one of my spells against him. 'Memorio Evaporato.' I said to myself. It's a spell to make your opponent forget what ever you want, so I made him forget what spell her was going to use and quickly used 'Expelliarmus.' His wand flew out of his had, which shocked him. He looked purely dumbfounded. "How did you do that?" He asked me curiously. "It's simple, I use one of my own spells against you." I said. "You know how to create your own spells? Maddie, you never stop surprising me." He said with admiration in his eyes. I smiled and he got his wand back and tucked it in one of his pockets. "What else can you do?" He asked curiously as we walked out of the classroom. "I can use magic without a wand and I have good healing powers." I replied. "Your parents would have been so proud of you Maddie. I know I am." He said sweetly. "Thank you Severus. That means a lot to me." I said with a smile. "Ah, there you are Severus, may I see you in my office?" Dumbledore asked curiously as he came around the corner. "Sure headmaster. See you later Maddie." Severus said with a slight wave. "See ya." I replied. I went back to my room and found a note laying on my desk.
