Nel smiled when she saw her son interact with his new friends, noticing that he hasn't smiled this much since Trevor hurt him. She looked over at Mike, noticing how he was looking over court papers. He was close to losing his job not too long ago to fight for Mitch and was forced to keep the case to himself, even though he needed people's help to bring Trevor behind bars. Nel rubbed his back, smiling weakly.
"We'll win, Mike. The Grassis always do."
"I know," Mike murmured, throwing the papers down. He rubbed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Out of everyone we know, why did it have to be our son? What did he do?"
Nel was about to answer when a sound interrupted her , causing her to gasp. She covered her mouth and began to cry happy tears, sobbing quietly. Mike looked into the living room, wondering if he was hearing things. He wasn't though, tearing up when he realized the sound was real.
"Nel?"
"Yes, Mike."
"Am I hearing what I think I'm hearing?"
"Yes, baby. Yes you are."
After four long, heartbreaking and desolate months, Mitch finally laughed again.
~~~
"I haven't laughed since forever," Mitch told his friends, his smile contagious. "I forgot what it felt like."
"I want to hear laugh again," Scott demanded playfully, slamming his first on the couch. Mitch jumped and covered himself quickly, his eyes full of fear. "Mitch, I didn't mean to do that! I'm so sorry."
"You're okay," Mitch reassured, his voice becoming quiet again. "I want to know more about your mom."
"Why?" Scott asked, adjusting himself. He sat up, shrugging his shoulders. "There's not much to talk about."
"There has to be," Kirstie pointed out. "I'll start with my mom. After she passed, I didn't tell anyone at first. They found out a week later when the newspaper printed out my father's arrest. It was then when my boyfriend let me and my sister move I with him. It just wasn't the same though.
"My mom was my Guardian Angel. The day she passed away was the day when I realized life had no meaning. My life is nothing now."
Kirstie wiped her eyes, not wanting to cry a third time today. She was tired of crying all the time. Avi sighed, looking over at Mitch.
"My parents never cared. My dad did a little, but my mom often times forgot that I was her kid. They never worked hard as parents. The day my dad died showed how much he actually cared. Why did he show that he cared about in his last minutes when he could have done that my entire life?"
"I'm sorry, Avi," Mitch murmured, hugging Avi tightly. "I give you permission to touch me."
Avi hugged Mitch back, the smaller body fitting onto his like a missing puzzle piece. The younger boy hung onto him like a koala bear, not wanting to let go. The two of them stayed longer than expected, enjoying the warmth the other one had.
It was like no one else was there. It felt like they were the only ones in the room at that moment.
Mitch let go, smiling at Avi happily. Kevin smiled too, loving how the two interacted with each other.
Alyssa and I will be like that one day.
"I guess it's my turn," Kevin began, shrugging his shoulders. "My parents never cared. My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and my doctor even said that he was surprised that I am not addicted to smoking. My dad drank a lot and was drunk at most of my music concerts growing up. I do not have anything to say about them. I do not care about them anymore."
Scott nodded, wondering if anyone would judge him for having an alcoholic mother and father. His mom is dead, but his dad began to drink not even a day he started therapy. It broke his heart to see the close relationship that Mitch has with his mom and dad because he knew that he would never get that.
Out of the five of them, Mitch had the most loving parents. It didn't smell like drugs, alcohol, or smoke in the Grassi household. Mike and Nel were not fighting or abusing each other. It seemed like Mitch loved his home and it was his favorite place in the world.
Why can't I have that?
"My mom and dad are alcoholics and don't care about me. Simple as that. No one does."
"I do."
"I do too.
"Me three."
"Me four."
Scott smiled weakly, his stomach hurting suddenly. He rubbed his stomach in hopes to fight off the feeling, but it did not go away. He hasn't felt this feeling for a long time. He widened his eyes, knowing exactly what it was.
It's love.
~~~
Scott drove home, a weird feeling in his stomach. This time, however, it wasn't love. It was worry, the kind of worry that did not go away unless you knew what was happening and Scott had no idea what was going on.
What's the matter?
He picked up his phone after pulling off to the side, texting Alex quickly. The worry grew more, making him grown anxious now.
//Something is wrong. Come to my house, baby.\\
Alex was his best choice at the moment. His boyfriend was the first person to know of Scott's mom and made sure to stand by his side through the entire thing. Alex is his protecter and made every bring better for him.
//Of course, my love. I'll be there in five.\\
Scott smiled weakly as he texted 'thank you' and drove off, speeding up a bit. He refused to stop because he knew something was going to happen if he didn't hurry up.
Drive faster, Scott!
He finally reached home, noticing how the front door was opened wide. He jumped out of his moving car, hissing at the pain that erupted in his arm. At that moment, Alex showed up and helped Scott up, shaking his head.
"Don't do that, babe. You're get hurt."
Scott didn't listen though. He ran into the house, screaming loudly at the sight in front of him. Alex ran in after him, widening his eyes as he went to hug his boyfriend. Scott cried on Alex's shoulder, mumbling no the entire time as the older male called 911.
"911, how may we help you?"
"I'm Alexander Kirk."
"Okay, Mr. Kirk. What is the problem?"
"Somebody has passed away."
"Okay, I'll send an ambulance there. Please tell me the address."
Alex did as he was told, going on the ground when Scott fell on his knees. He held the younger boy close to him, tearing up himself as he saw the figure in front of him.
"Mr. Kirk, who passed away?"
Alex began to cry, Scott's body shaking with sobs now. He took a shaky breath, answering the question.
"My boyfriend's father."
