"Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire, I stand with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that ice would too be great, and would suffice." Levi smiled slightly, eyes closed. Somehow, Eren's voice when reading always lulled him to sleep. It was the best cure he'd found for his insomnia that didn't involve heavy narcotics.
"Oh hushed October, morning-mild, thy leaves have ripened in the fall. Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild, should waste them all. The crows above the forest call, tomorrow they may form and go. Oh hushed October, morning-mild, Begin the hours of this day slow. Make the day seem to us less brief. Hearts not averse to being beguiled, beguile us in the way you know. Release one leaf at break of day; at noon release another leaf- One from our trees, one far away." Eren paused for a slow, calm breath.
"Retard the sun with gentle mist; enchant the land with amethyst. Slow, slow! For the grapes' sake, if they were all, whose leaves already are burnt with frost, whose clustered fruit must else be lost— For the grapes' sake along the wall." Eren's hand stroked Levi's face, and he let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding in.
"Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower, but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief, so dawn goes down to day; nothing gold can stay." Levi felt himself sink into unconsciousness, but not before he heard Eren speak again.
"I love you, Levi." That was the most beautiful- unwritten- poetry Levi had ever heard. He had heard it time and time again, and it never lost its luster. However, today it was missing its closing stanza.
"I love you too."
Eren had always been better with poetry anyway.
