I woke up to the smell of pancakes. I slipped on a jacket and walked downstairs.
"Morning mom." I greeted her with a hug as she cooked the pancakes.
"Morning Melissa." I nodded towards Melissa, who was setting up the plates.
"Auntie Aria!" Maria exclaimed from her seat at the table. She's grown a lot since the last time I've seen her.
"Hey!" I walked over to hug her. "When did you get here?" She asked. "Oh I'm with Luke and his band." I replied. Maria's eyes lit up and the mention of Luke's name, since she thought of him as a brother, or cousin I guess. "Where is he?" Maria asked eagerly. "At the hotel. But I'll tell him you said hi." I smiled. Okay I was lying, since I really didn't feel like talking to him anytime soon. But Maria didn't need to know that.
I walked back over to where Melissa and my Mom were now putting the last of the pancakes on the plate.
"Need help?" I asked.
"Yeah bring the stack of pancakes to the table, then call your father and Kenneth." My Mom said.
I grabbed the plate and placed it on the table. I walked out to the backyard, knowing that they would most likely be there.
Kenneth was sitting on the back porch with my dad. They were staring at the view of the city as they talked.
"Is she alright?" My dad asked Kenneth. Who was 'she'? I wondered.
"Aria seemed to be thinking about something really hard last night. Like she was running away and thinking of her next move I guess." Kenneth answered.
I cleared my throat to make my presence known. "We're going to eat now guys." I informed.
The got up and we walked back into the dining area.
I took my place next to my Mom, my father of course sat at the end of the table, while Kenneth and his family sat across from my mom and I.
As we ate, we reminisced about the past and I told them how I was doing alone in Australia.
"So how long have you and Luke been together now?" Dad asked.
I felt my smile slowly fade away. I fumbled with my fingers and replied, "Actually we broke up last year."
Everyone went silent, even Maria.
"Why?" Maria asked innocently.
"We agreed that we needed a break for a while." I said. Okay so not WE but me. It was a stupid decision.
"Maria, can you go upstairs please?" Melissa asked. "But Mommy." Maria began to protest but Melissa gave her a look. Maria walked upstairs after that.
"Do you have any plans of getting back together?" I could tell my Mother was hoping that we would. She and Luke's mom always talked about how great it would be if we ended up together.
"I think Luke has moved on." I slowly said. I could feel my face getting hot, I might break down any minute.
"What do you mean?" My Dad and Kenneth asked in unison.
I looked away again and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath then said, "Luke proposed to a girl named Kathy. They're getting married 5 months after they come back to Australia." I said shakily.
My Mom and Melissa just stared at me. My Dad looked like he was just shot, and Kenneth looked about ready to throw a tantrum.
"That's fast." Melissa said, breaking the silence.
Kenneth laughed. "Wow. I can't believe I treated that kid like a brother. It's as if the three years you two spent together means nothing to him!" Kenneth exclaimed. I could hear the anger in his voice rising.
"It's fine. I'm over it. I don't like him anymore that way. We're just destined to be friends. That's it." I replied coolly.
"Aria you can't just-" Kenneth started to speak but then my Dad said, "Kenneth that's enough. She said she's over it. She won't interact with him that way again."
Kenneth sat back down in his chair.

The rest of breakfast was a bit awkward. I helped Melissa and my mom do the dishes, then I ran upstairs to take a shower. I threw on gray shirt and pulled my blue flannel shirt on top, but didn't button it up. I wore my ripped jeans and braided my wet hair.
I sat outside on the back porch strumming the guitar that my Dad had bought me for my birthday when I was younger. I played a few songs that Luke had taught me as I stared off into the distance.
Everyone went out somewhere so I was allowed to be left home here.
I heard the door ring from all the way outside, I placed my guitar on the swing and got up to answer the front door.
"Calum? Luke?" I asked.
They both stood on my doorstep looking at me.
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" I asked now.
"Luke needs to talk to you." Calum stared coldly at him.
Without another word, they stepped in.
We walked to the back porch, while Calum sat in the living room watching TV, and had a clear view of us.
"So." I started.
"You still have feelings." It sounded more like a statement than a question.
I shrugged. "I don't even know myself." Luke looked at me. "This is just going to be awkward. What if I get married right now? Would you still have feelings for me even if I loved someone else? When are you going to move on?" Luke bombarded me with questions that I couldn't even answer. "Luke. I'm over you. I really don't care anymore. I don't care who you marry, I don't care what you do with your life, I don't even care if you cut your connection with me. I just don't give a shit anymore." I explained.
"What the hell Aria!? You act like we're a couple that needs to talk things through!" Luke spat.
"Luke we WERE a couple. We're best friends too. Honestly I'm tired of all this shit. Luke I've waited a very long time for you, and when I had you, I let you go so easily. Yes it's a stupid mistake, because I still love you!" I screamed at him.
"Aria! I don't love you like that. I love Kathy! Remember? I even told you that I thought she was the one. Aria I love her so much that I would do ANYTHING for her." Luke said. "But right now you're confusing me because I don't know how I feel for you."
I cupped Luke's face and made him look at me.
"Luke please tell me. I need to know. Is it Kathy, or me?" I was crying, I didn't want to know the answer, but I had to know.
Luke refused to answer.
"Luke please I need to know. If its Kathy, then I'll stop loving you. I'll only love you as a brother." I promised.
Still no answer.
"Luke!" I said.
Luke sighed and hugged me. I felt a little wave of relief but I still needed an answer.
"I choose Kathy." Luke muttered.
