After what seemed Luke forever in the car, Ethan parked near the pier.
We got out of the car and he immediately grabbed my hand and pulled me on to the boardwalk.
I've only been to the beach a few times since the past year. I had forgotten how beautiful it was.
"Wow." I said breathlessly. "Don't go to the beach often?" Ethan asked, swinging our hands back and forth. I shook my head. "I've always been too busy to go." I answered.
"Well, luckily I brought you here. There's fireworks tonight, and since there are, there are many people selling things on the pier." Ethan said with a smile that would make any girl melt.
I smiled back at him. "I'm happy I ruined your shirt." I chuckled. "Me too." Ethan said, moving his hand and wrapping his arm around me so that I would be closer to him.
For once in the longest time, I felt the butterflies in my stomach. No wait, a fucking zoo in my stomach. Why? I just met this boy. I couldn't possibly love him. For once in the longest time, I want to open up to someone. For once after so many years, I actually felt like I belonged somewhere, and I felt safe in his arms.
'Knock it off Aria. You barely know him.' I scolded myself.
"So tell me about yourself." Ethan suddenly said, staring out, taking in the view around him.
Without ripping my eyes from the beautiful crashing waves, I said, "like what?"
Ethan shrugged. "Anything." Then he looked at me. I looked up into his bright eyes. My knees were weak now. But I didn't want to open up to him. Not yet.
He must've read my expression on my face and gave a tiny laugh. "Okay I'll start."
"I grew up in Melbourne, but my family moved to Sydney when I was 13. Hm. Back in high school, I was a badass. I nearly got arrested too." Ethan said, as if the last part wasn't a big deal.
"Why?" I asked. "Some senior jocks invited me to some party. Of course, being the curious child I was, I wanted to experience a high school party. They offered me beer but I turned it down and asked for water. Then the police came and I was one of the idiots that were caught." Ethan explained.
I observed the way he let his hair fall into his eyes, and he just shook it to the side.
"What happened?" I asked, not wanting him to stop. Every part of him was mesmerizing. I wanted to listen to his voice that sounded so soft. I wanted to trace my finger along his jawline and hold his face in my hands.
"Luckily my uncle was one of the cops, and got me out." Ethan laughed as if it was nothing.
"Weren't you worried?" I asked now.
Ethan shook his head. "I really didn't care about anything or anyone. I only focused in my family and getting a scholarship."
I took in what he just said, I should've been more like him.
"So what about you? What's your story?" Ethan asked.
"Not much to say. I was born in America. Moved here to Sydney, lived here all my life. My parents moved back to America, so I was staying with my cousin until I graduated and rented an apartment with my best friends. Unfortunately I'll be alone soon." I managed a weak laugh.
Ethan nodded. "Did you and Luke used to be a thing?"
"I guess you could say that." I shrugged. Ethan looked at me, concern in his eyes.
"Did he hurt you?" Ethan asked giving me a little frown. "Don't worry. He won't hurt Kathy. He loves her." I said.
"I know he won't. I was just wondering if he hurt you." Ethan said. I shrugged.
"Hey let's get some popcorn." I pointed to the stand, determined to change the topic. "Alright." Ethan laughed at my eagerness for popcorn and we walked over to the stand.

We were seated at the pier now, feet dangling off the edge, waiting for the fireworks as we talked about future plans and sharing old stories.
"I have never wanted to be so close to anyone in my life than now." Ethan smiled at me. "Same here." I laughed.
"Uh. Ethan, remember when you asked me if Luke had ever hurt me?" I asked. "Yes." He replied, suddenly turning serious.
"Uh. He has before. But we broke up because I called for a break, but I think I still like him." Everything flooded out of me. I felt a bit better admitting it. I admitted everything to Ethan.
Ethan took my hands and looked me in the eyes. "I can treat you so much better. And you know that." Ethan said. I weakly smiled at him, unsure of what to reply.
"Just give me a chance to show you." Ethan pleaded. "I already know you can." I laughed at him.
Ethan smiled and scooted closer.
He cupped my face and he leaned in until our foreheads touched.
"Ethan I don't know." I said uneasily.
"Shh." Ethan said.
Suddenly I felt his soft lips press on to mine. I felt these little shivers run down my spine. I wanted more.
And as if on cue, the fireworks started, but that didn't stop Ethan and I.
He pulled me as close as he could to him. Each kiss got deeper until unheard a familiar voice.
"What the hell!?"
I instantly broke away from Ethan and looked up to see Luke towering over us.
"Luke?" I said. I was happy to see him, mad because he ruined a moment, and confused as to why he was here.
"Hey what are you doing here?" Ethan asked kindly.
"I was with Kathy, who's buying some snacks, then I stumble upon you two." Luke said in an irritated tone.
I felt a thick tension between the two boys.
"Is there a problem here?" I asked Luke.
"In fact there is. I'm not comfortable with you two being together." Luke announced.
"Luke you're not my dad. Fuck off." I screamed. Now I was pissed.
Luke stood in shock, mouth hanging open when I told him to fuck off.
He opened his mouth to argue but before he could even breathe again, I took Ethan's hand and said, "Let's go."
Damn Luke.
