Winter

I woke up in a dark room tied to the back of a chair. My memories were hazy and unclear; all I could remember was something going terribly wrong. My feet were tied to the legs of the chair, and my arms were bent behind my back in strange angles. Oh and I couldn't see, someone must've blind folded me. Luckily my mouth wasn't gagged and I could breathe.

"Finally awake ice princess?" a voice erupted from somewhere in the room.

A voice like honey... Several jumbled memories ran into my mind at once, my artificial dragon going berserk, my friends passed out on the ground and injured, and a woman saying take the ice wizards.

      "Who are you?" I exclaimed.

"Oh you really don't know? That's offending honey," I could feel a hand grab at my blind fold and rip it off of my face roughly.

The light was almost blinding, but once my eyes focused I could see my surroundings. It looked as though I was in a small brick cell. The brick walls were moldy and seemed to be cracking. A single window high up provided all the light for the room, and a metal door seemed to be the only logical exit. Several sets of empty shackles aligned the walls, and standing right in front of me was the woman I held accountable for this mess. The same sharp features and leather clothing from before stared down on me. The woman had an evil smirk on her face.

      "Where's Gray?" I snapped.

"You really can't smell him? Some dragon slayer you are," the woman muttered, walking towards me. She turned my chair around swiftly.

I looked down in terror at an unconscious Gray. His face was covered in cuts and bruises. A gag was shoved into his mouth, and his arms and legs were tied together. I struggled in my binds, trying frantically to get out of them.

"Why would you do this?" I asked, my voice cracking.

I tried to divert her attention away from my struggles. I tried to freeze over my binds as she talked.

"He wasn't as easy to shut up as you were, for that matter he put up a fight unlike you. It's always a bother when they wake up during the kidnapping," she said, smiling to herself.

It took a tremendous amount of effort, but I froze over my binds. "I'm simply here to ruin your hopes of defeating Acnologia," she continued, "Would you like to know my name?" No I wouldn't, but this is good enough stalling. "Kage, do you know what that means? Shadow darling, if you can't even beat me, how can you beat Acnologia." She was spouting nonsense, none of it seemed to make sense, but I had broken through my binds.

"Aw look at you, isn't that cute? You think I haven't noticed you trying to escape," Kage walked over towards me swiftly.

Without another word she hit me, my binds shattered and I fell onto the ground. Why was my magic power so low? She walked over to me, grabbing my hair and lifting my head up.

"Haven't you figured out who I am yet?" she questioned, dropping my face onto the hard ground.

"Even Acnologia has an apprentice honey. If your friends can't beat me you've got no chance," she said.

I tried to crawl closer to Gray, I didn't want my friends to get hurt. It backfired in my face. Kage noticed my efforts and walked closer to Gray, kicking him in the stomach.

      "Stop It!" I screamed.

Kage smirked. What kind of cruel person would find joy in other's suffering? She put her leather boot on Gray's face pushing down. I crawled as fast as I could towards him, trying to stop her. I grabbed her ankle, pulling as hard as I could. Why did my body hurt so bad?

"Aw isn't that cute?" Kage said, removing her foot. "Tell you what, since I'm feeling generous today, go home to your friends. Tell them about this little encounter. I'll be waiting for you, and if you decide not to come. Well let's just say next time, I won't let you leave so easily," she said stepping on my fingers.

She exited the room, locking the door behind her. I stared at the beaten up and broken down Gray. I was shaking. I got onto my knees, and with a tremendous effort, I tried to undo all of his binds.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I murmured, tears streaming down my face.

I pulled his head onto my lap as if I could protect him somehow. I couldn't even protect my friends... how was I supposed to save the world from Acnologia? I removed the gag out of his mouth last, and as I did so his eyes snapped open. He sat up quickly, groaning. I winced.

"Winter are you okay?" he questioned, looking at me concerned.

I shook my head, "I'm sorry. Sh-she wants us to leave. If we don't fight her, I'm afraid she's going to hurt our friends. I was to exhausted to fight back."

Gray looked defeated, wiping the tears off my cheeks. "Don't cry, we'll beat her next time."

"How am I supposed to defeat Acnologia if I can't even protect the people I care about?"

"We'll figure it out. Fairy Tail always does," he said.

I nodded, trying to stand up. We were both in pretty bad shape, but we leaned on each other until we were comfortably standing.

"The door is locked, and I think our best bet is through the wall. I don't want to encounter her again..." I murmured.

"Alright. We can probably freeze the wall and break it if we try together," Gray said.

"Okay, I think we should try and do it in one blow," I said. I was still rather defeated and tired, but Gray made me feel better.

Gray nodded, I put my hand on Gray's shoulder, and he put his on my waist. We joined our other hands together, pointing towards the wall. From someone else it probably looked as though we were about to do the tango, but we were relying on each other's strength. "Ice breaker!" We chanted together, and two columns of ice shot from our hands, shattering the brick wall.

I looked towards Gray, "Thank you, for helping me. I've always believed in the good of people, I guess it's hard for me to believe there is real evil out there," I said.

"Don't be stupid. What kind of friend would I be if I wasn't there for you?" He said, holding out his hand.

I took it gratefully, and with that we trekked towards home. It was hard for me to believe that the cool guy had been so gentle, and wiped away my tears. Needless to say I was grateful to have a friend with me, and next time we were going to whip the shadow witch's butt.
