Augustus and Alex

Confusion

Augustus turned back to his book. Alex was not worth it, he would not allow it. However, his heart didn't agree. "Look at him again!" his heart told him. Augustus could suddenly smell Alex's strong cologne. "He's back," he thought to himself. "um..." started Alex. "HEY!" Augustus turned and saw Martha and Kia walk towards him. "LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Augustus could see the rage in Kia's eyes. "God, don't you get tired of yourself?! Just leave Augustus alone!" Martha walked up to Alex and pushed him. Alex turned to Augustus, hoping for some support. "I-- I need to talk to you" Alex said, looking into Augustus's eyes. "You heard them," Augustus began, "leave me alone." 

"Auggie, if Alex ever comes to bother you, just give me a call," said Kia reassuringly.
"yeah, sure."
 "Hey, what's up?" asked Martha.
 "You didn't hear already?"
"no...."
 "Well, Alex randomly came up to me and kissed me."
"Wait, what?! No wonder he bullies you! He doesn't want to admit his feelings!" Augustus shook his head.
 "Nope. He said he was dared to afterwards."
 "Why would he say that? He kissed you!" Martha stroked his hair, smiling.
"I must be missing something. Why did he say that?"
"He said it after Tammy saw." Kia groaned and Martha rolled her eyes.
"God, Tammy!"
 "yep..." Martha and Kia looked at each other, realizing they completely ruined what was supposed to be a beautiful moment with Augustus and Alex. Martha quickly got up and Kia got the hint.
"Augustus, we should get going. Text me if you need anything."
"sure." With that, Martha and Kia quickly walked away. 

*RING RING*

Augustus quickly put his book back into his backpack. He scanned the crowd to see if Alex was possibly anywhere. And then he saw him, with the Zayn Malik hair tucked underneath a Troye Sivan baseball cap. Augustus tried to ignore him, but Alex was too cute. Alex looked lost and started looking around. Augustus quickly ran to Science before Alex saw him. He knew Alex would be impossible to avoid, they had almost every class together. 

"Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere....." Augustus's Science teacher seemed to drone on and on forever. Augustus just couldn't focus on anything. His whole world was spinning. "Why do I live? Why do I breathe?" he was having an existential crisis. "Augustus and Alex, you two are partners for the planets exam. That are all the partners. I recommend going to each other's house to get the work done faster." Augustus's heart started to beat faster and faster. Partners?! He felt a tap on his shoulder. There Alex was, with a giant grin on his face.
