Augustus and Alex

More Confusion

Augustus walked into school with a big grin on his face. He was ecstatic to see Alex. He walked towards his locker when suddenly he heard someone burst into tears. It was Brittney. Augustus frowned, he never saw Brittney like that. He started walking towards her, and casually draped his arm around her. Brittney really appreciated it, she started sniffling into Augustus's hoodie. Augustus knew from past experiences to just let her cry and not question it.

I scanned the hallway for Brittney. I needed to find her as soon as possible, before that darn bell rang. Then I saw her long black hair and contagious smile. I ran up to her and tapped her shoulder. She turned around and hugged me, however I felt nothing. No spark, no connection. "Hellooo, haven't seen you around." she said as she threw her hair into a ponytail. "yeah." Brittney squinted and looked deep into my eyes. "anything wrong?" I looked behind me and looked back at her. I inhaled then exhaled, finally gathering the courage. "Brittney, you're great and everything, but just want to be soccer friends. I don't think this is working out for me." I could see Brittney's heart drop and tears gather in her eyes, but then again, I could feel no sympathy. "Fine!" she snapped. "I never liked you in the first place!". She shoved me against the lockers and disappeared into the crowds. I shrugged, at least I got that over with.

I decided to run to the library and grab a new book to read before the bell rang. I had to be quick, 5 minutes until the bell rang. I ran past my locker and past the cafeteria. I slammed open the door and dropped onto the library bench. I gathered my breath and saw that Martha, Kia and Sara were already there. Martha looked up, her face was red and there were circles underneath her eyes. When she saw me she started to cry even more black tears. "....um???" I looked around, hoping Sara or Kia would tell me what was going on. Kia patted Martha's back and started walking towards me. She grabbed my wrist and brought me to the bookshelves, away from Martha and Sara. "she likes you." "WHAT?!" Kia's eyes grew as big as saucers and covered my mouth with her sleeve. "she's been heartbroken ever since you said you liked Alex." "i-- i don-" Kia cut Augustus off by covering his mouth once again. "you're not a very good liar," she whispered into his ear before walking away.
