----Alex----
I wake up and it's already nighttime. I guess I was asleep on Augustus's shoulder the whole ride to some park. I get off the sleeping bag Augustus apparently set me on top of and help Augustus set up the tent. One tent. Guess we're sleeping together.
"I didn't know you were such a tent master. Seems to me you don't need my help." I say to Augustus. He knows every single piece and strip by heart and whips up the tent in a few minutes.
"Boy Scouts. It's a 6 person tent, by the way." Augustus gets all our stuff and puts it into a corner of the tent. He ties Lucky to a tree and gives her a blanket. When she started whimpering, he calmed her down by giving her a carrot. Bribery.
I crawl into the tent and place our sleeping bags next to each other. I grab my lotion and smother it all over my face and look through my backpack for my pillow. Behind me, I hear Augustus zip up the tent.
"G'night, Auggie."
"G'night."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to the smell of plain old bread. Augustus was eating it crazily and gestured to another sandwich he probably made for me. I take it and nibble off the crust.
"Alex we should start looking." Augustus says to me after he finishes. The crumbs are all over his face, though, and he looks pretty darn cute.
"I have no idea what we have done. Where in the world could she be?!"
"Well, like the good boy I am, I created a map of all the places she could be. So first let's look in the fields." I almost spit out the bread, trying to control my laugh.
"Why would she be in the fields" I question Augustus. He shrugs and gets his flashlight out.
"C'mon. We have 2 weeks to look for her, we have to make the most of it."I grabbed a pocketknife with me just in case. I don't want to freak out Augustus when I whip it out so I tell him in advance.
"Er... K." So far, so awkward. Augustus walks swiftly through the towering grass to the hills.
"I said the fields," he says," because when were in kindergarten, whenever we went on a fieldtrip Martha would always hide in the hills for hide and seek. Always making the place feel like home, ya know?" I look over at him and see him blush to himself. Again another pang of jealousy hits but I just nod.
"She's pretty great. I've missed her a lot these past weeks." Ugh! Jealousy strikes.
"Are you dating her or something?" I can't see Augustus's face as it's covered by his bangs.
"Um, I would've. I mean, if I hadn't... wasn't-- OH! WHAT'S THAT?!" Augustus runs over to a blanket tucked into a hill. He starts running around all crazy, looking around every hill. He groans when he doesn't find anything but continues to look around.
"What was that Auggie? You could've scared her away when you screamed" I quit laughing when I see Augustus's death glare.
"Why is everything a joke to you? We came here to look for her." I'm confused, how did he get mad all of a sudden? This friendship, if not, more, was no more than laughter then frustration. We laugh then we get into some random arguement. It's tiring.
"Auggie, I'm sorry. But you can't tell me not to laugh. Let's go back to looking for your girlfriend." I mentally give myself a face-palm as Augustus gives me a questioning look. I try to ignore him and walk behind a hill and find a Chinese candy wrapper.
"She's probably been here. I found a wrapper."
"wow we totally found her because we found a wrapper" Augustus said with much, much sarcasm.
"You're the one freaking out after seeing a blanket" Augustus gives me a playful glare which is a nice break from the death glares. And then I notice something different.
"Auggie? Did you cut your hair?!" Augustus gives me a weird look, probably the first time I called him Auggie. I don't remember.
"Um... a little. My bangs were getting too long." He still looks pretty cute. I find myself staring at him and don't notice until Augustus turns away. He looks around the hills and shakes his head when he doesn't find anything.
"Let's call that a night." he says and he walks back towards the field.
"Auggie, we were literally here for 10 minutes" Augustus continues walking and I gradually follow.
"Alex, I'm super tired. Can you go get some Chinese food? Chinese Town is only a ten minute walk from here." I nod and Augustus gets some cash out of his wallet. I grab my jacket and set out.
