Augustus walked into Math, not knowing what to do with his life. What happened with whom he used to be, an awkward, shy that nobody talked to or cared about. Certainly nobody crushed on him. He felt disappointed in himself, breaking Martha's heart like that. But there was nothing he could do anyways, he just didn't like her like that.

-----next day------

"Class, pack up all your stuff. You are immediately going to your next class after the assembly." Augustus put his pencil back into his backpack and went into line behind Alex.
"move out of the way loser" Tammy said as he pushed Augustus out of the way. Augustus fell onto a desk and looked to Alex for help. Alex put his head down and looked forward.
'unbelievable' Augustus thought to himself. He stood at the back of the line and followed everyone into the gym.

"Here at Muthin High School, we are struck with an unfortunate event. A fellow student and friend, Martha McGrory has disappeared from her home last night. She left a note behind in her room stating life wasn't fair. She also stated that she was heartbroken and didn't want to endure it again. Right now, Martha is somewhere. But our local police team are searching everywhere for her." Mr. Farmer brought his hand up to his eye to wipe off a tear.
"That's all I wanted to address. You can go back to class." Augustus could not believe his ears. She was heartbroken, and he blamed it all on himself. His mind brought back the image of Martha crying black tears while Sara and Kia helped her. She was such an amazing girl and an incredible friend. But it was all ruined now, she was somewhere, wanting to kill herself.

Augustus grabbed his bike off the rack. He wanted to go home and just think.
"Hey Augustus." Augustus could recognize that voice from anywhere, and he didn't want to hear it. He turned around to face Alex in the eye.
"Don't touch me. Don't talk to me. Don't even look at me." Augustus grabbed his helmet and struggled to put it on.
"Auggie, I thought we were past that--"
"No," Augustus cut him off, " we were never past that. You are a self-absorbed asshole who should rot in hell. I don't ever want to be seen with you again." Augustus got onto his bike and rode away.
"I should've been so mean..." he thought "because I still love him."
