Augustus and Alex

Color Me Blue

I was going crazy thinking of Alex. We literally JUST became friends and I ruined it. Maybe that's why I can't keep my friends, I just get mad for no reason. I hope he knows I didn't mean what I said.

I see Alex walk to gym and I hesitate whether or not I should go and talk to him. After all, we do have gym together. I finally gather up some courage and run up to him.
"hey" I say as I catch up to him. It takes a lot of effort to walk with Alex because he is blessed with the long legs. 
"hi" he barely says. What's it going to take to make him forgive me? 
"how's life?" I say with false cheer.
"terrible" he says with anger.
"oh" I have no idea what to say. The door to gym is coming near and I cannot let him go without telling him the truth. I run up a few steps and stop in front of him. He stumbles forward but I grab onto him.
"What in the world was that about?" 
"I'm sorry Alex. I didn't mean what I said that other day." 
"Of course you didn't" he says back with a sarcastic tone.
"I really didn't." 
"Then why in the world did you say it?" he says. He looks exhausted and I feel terrible. I feel like the devil, for goodness sake.
" I don't know. I had a lot of anger built up in me, you know. After I heard Martha disappeared." He looks at me with sympathy and I FRICKING HAD THE URGE TO KISS HIM. 
"Ok, fine. Can you move out of the way now?" Alex pushes forward but I do not give up.
"Alex! I said I'm sorry" 
"And I heard you" I feel like smashing the hint that I LIKED HIM into his head so he would understand. God, guys these days.
"So can we go back to how it was before I said that?" Alex gives me that look, the exhausted look that he's been wearing for the past couple of days. He walks forward and mumbles something softly, but loud enough for me to hear:"I don't know." And with that he walks into gym.

*after gym*

I walk out of gym with anger and sadness. I don't know how to explain the mixture of emotions Alex gives me. I see Kia talking to Sara and Kia before she turns around to walk toward me.
"ayeee Auggie" Sara says as she gives me a quick hug. Emma gives me a kiss on the cheek, which is not surprising. Kia smiles at me and hands me a blue envelope.
"I'm having a party tomorrow. And you're invited." 
"So soon after Martha leaves?" I joke. Kia turns ice cold and glares.
"Not funny. At all." 
"Oh- No, I'm sorry. That was dumb of me to say." Kia nods but still gives me the cold stare. 
"Better come Augustus." 
"Yeah. I really will." Kia, Sara and Emma walk away and I am left with the envelope and the urge to open it. And I do.

Hey Augustus! I'm sure you know where I live so come to my house tomorrow for a party at 5.
