the voice that haunted Saoirse where ever she went.

Saoirse was a peasent, she worked in the kind kings castle, she never made enough money to buy a nice dress to go to balls or to even help put food on the table. working was not something Saoirse was good at. riding was. but obviously she couldn't afford a horse.

'Has the silver been polished?' asked the shrill voice of the queen.

'Yes ma'am.' I replied obediently.

'Table been set?'

'Yes ma'am.'

'Good. The duchess will be happy to hear that William is coming. Send her a letter, will you child.' It wasn't a question.

'Saying what, your Highness?'

'That William will be coming, of course.' she was losing her patience.

'To which duchess?'

'Whichever ones daughter is betothed to William.'

I caught my breath. Betothed?

William and I had been friends since we were young children, my first kiss was upon his lips, we had been eight so it hadn't meant anything. But still, I was very taken to him. I had always known nothing would ever happen, I was of no royalty, and he was... Well he was a prince. The eldest of seven, and next in line for the throne.

'You hadn't heard? He was betothed to Elizibeth Wate last night.' She laughed.

Oh.. well that explained it. Extremely pretty, extremely rich and extremely mean. Elizabeth Wate was the kingdoms most skilled rider, weaver and singer. her father, Dean Wate Duke of Walls, was the second richest man in the Kingdom, right after my father, Duke of Dragon Hall.

'Oh... What would you like me to write?' was all I managed.

'I've told you all ready, Saoirse!' her patience was lost. How on earth did she now my name?

'Sorry, my appoliges your Highness.' And with that i scurried down the hall to the kitchen.
