Chapter 2~ Dragons

The dream changed. I was standing in a cave. I could hear waves crashing against a cliff somewhere close.

Help

help

help or they'll kill us!

The call was getting louder. The crashing waves grew louder with the call. The dream was getting fuzzy but I could still hear just fine.

Come

come

come and you'll save us!

The dream came into focus and on the ground of the cave lay two eggs, one gold, one sapphire. They lay alone on the caves floor, and I knew that I would have to save them.

I woke with a start and looked around. David was fast asleep on the other side of the double bed. He was snoring. On the other side of the room, in another double bed, Amy and Brian slept. On the floor next to the Harry slept on a hay mattress. All fast asleep, I picked up a heavy book from under a loose floor board. 'A History of Athiosus'. I had 'borrowed' it from the castle library. Not that anyone knew of my treasured library.

One day when I had just started working as a maid for the Queen, I stumbled across passageway. It led to a small archive filled with books, I had only given it a small glance at the time, but now I went every second day.

I opened the book to page one.

'The Cities of Athiosus'

'In the beginning Athiosus was a tropical island filled with magical creatures and monsters. Only one setelment survived the attacks of the monsters. Three brothers, told their clan leader that they had an idea, but they would only tell the leader if they made them kings. He obliged and they shared their idea. To build a wall. The leader was so surprised at the three so he obliged. Three walled cities were built for the brothers and they were made kings.

One city was called 'Belidona Athiosus'. The city was named after the brothers sister who drowned herself in the river that ran through the city. The second city was called 'Acuses' after the first king. He had been poisened shortely after being crowned. The third walled city was named 'Terra Onas' after the Kings first and only love. There are no towns or villages outside of the walled cities, all of wich have been out. Only fools leave the cities, and only hereos return.'

The capter went on like that for another ten pages but those were the only interesting words. My eyes scanned the next headline. 'Family Trees' I scanned over the names untill I found my Mothers 'Onas'. I frowned. My mother's name was there. This book was at least fifty summers old. I frowned further. Harry's name was there, as was Amy's and Brian's. Mine and David's, on the other hand, were not.

I looked for our father's, but as I read down the line I became more confused and agitated.
