Chapter Eighteen

William~

I rowed the boat until nightfall and docked it in the caves where I found a sleeping Elizabeth and the girl who captured Saoirse all those weeks before. The Raider girl.

'Get away from them,' I hissed, pulling out my sword.

She rolled her eyes and stood up. 'Wondered where you'd got too.'

'Had you?' I asked, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

'I had,' she told me. 'And now you're here, but you just missed Saoirse, she just went in. And nothing, she ordered, goes in except her and David. So you can't be prince charming and rescue her. She isn't coming back, I can feel it. She isn't coming back.'

'Yes, she is. You want to know why?'

'Enlighten me.'

'Because I feel it. I feel like she is on her way back just now, with the eggs in her pack. I feel her success.'

She smirked.

'What?'

'You have no idea what you're talking about.'

'Well, I know what I'm talking about saying that I'm tired and going to sleep.' So I did.

Elizabeth woke me during the early hours of the morning and we devised a plan after she had filled me up to speed. She would take Harry to the mainland and seek refuge with her brethren. I and Shadow would accompany her and we would leave Saoirse and David a note to tell them where we had gone.

It was lunacy and I would not stand for it so, when the others had fallen asleep again I walked over to the gates.

As described by Elizabeth, I heard a rustling sound. I turned and there stood an ancient man who looked as though he had seen the world being created.

'William. You have come too late, you shall not pass.'

'What if I answer a riddle?'

'No. You were not meant to awaken from the Demons slumber.'

'I have though.'

'Yes but you are not the chosen one.'

'Is David?'

The man cast his eyes down and muttered a weak yes.

'Well then, I do believe I should be hearing riddles.'

'No. I have fulfilled my purpose.'

'What?' I asked but it was too late, he was gone. I sighed and looked around. On the ground, where the man had been standing was a key. At the end of the key was a head. A dragon head. I tucked it into my bag and sat watch. thinking of the day ahead of me.

At first light, I carried Harry to the boat and helped the girls take off. The boat was under Elizabeths' control so there wasn't much I could do to help. The boat pulled out of the cave and started moving at a fast pace towards the mainland. In blind panic that it would be too far for me to swim back to the caves in a few moments I jumped off the side of the boat.
