I could feel the currents change behind me as I swam for my life. The Serpent only had its eye's trained on me.
I must reach the shore. I must reach the shore. I must reach the shore. I repeated in my all but empty mind.
The others had made it the shore. They were standing there gaping in awe at the monster behind me. I turned in the water and felt adrenaline course through me. Still kicking my legs to keep myself upright I pulled my bow and one arrow out in one fluid motion. I aimed and shot.
The shot was perfect and it hit the Serpent in the eye.
The wounded creature let out a soul ripping shriek. I turned and swam faster then the fish themselves.
I turned again to the Serpent to see it thrashing around in the air like an aired fish. It was a green blue colour, white cart wheel eye, the other swollen and shut. It resembled a very, very, very large snake.
It stopped thrashing and turned its cart wheel eye towards me. It was huge, period.
I took aim again and let loose. The arrow found its target, the belly of the beast, but bounced off harmlessly.
I took aim for the eye but the Serpent saw it coming and dived. Not meaning good things for me.
I swam with my bow in hand.
The water erupted behind me. Spinning I saw the monster coming down at me with its mouth open.
I did the most illogical thing I've ever done. I swan at the beast and pulled myself onto it. I unsheathed my sword and slung my bow over my back.
I stabbed it. The sword sparked but did not penetrate. I sheathed and climbed the thrashing beast.
I made it to the head and stabbed again. No hope. And with one quick jerk to the right and I fell.
And as I fell I saw it. The weak point.
Every monster has a weak point. One place on them that you hit and they die. The Serpent's was bellow the jaw.
My bow was out before I had registered what was happening. The arrow before I could think.
I let the string go loose.
I was still falling. Only I wasn't the only one.
