I hate to say it, but I realized that, as I am sprinting down the steps and taking the smoldering cookies out of the oven, that I am slowly beginning to like Sam again. I remembered why I liked him in the first place: he was protective. And cute. And funny. I don't need to forgive him for what he did to me, but maybe I can stop hating him.Once all of the mischief was managed (comment if you get it😊), Sam went to go actually change upstairs in my bedroom, whereas I stayed in the kitchen to try to figure out how I would ask him to watch a movie with me tonight (not as a date), even though we have school tomorrow. Then the phone rang.
I went over to see the caller I.D., and it was my school.
So I answered. "Uh, hello?" I said.
An automated voice spoke,"Good evening. The school board would like to inform you that all school and school related activities will be canceled for the next week due to a severe snowstorm. Thank you for your understanding."
I hung up the phone and smiled to myself. I seriously had one day back from Christmas break, and we have a week's worth of snow days. Heck, I could have a sleepover with Sam and it be alright. Not in a weird way though.
"Who was on the phone?" Sam asked, coming down the stairs and breaking my train of thought.
"The school. Classes have been canceled because of some snowstorm," I said and smiled.
"Really? That's great! Maybe we can do something until you parents get home," he said.
"That's not going to be for another 2 weeks," I said.
"Oh, um . . . sorry. We can still do something though, right?"
I smiled at his eagerness. "Sure what do you want to do?" I asked.
"How about a sleepover?" Sam asked. Weird. I was seriously just thinking about that.
"Yeah, ok," I said and smiled.
"Really?!" Sam exclaimed and perked up.
"Are we really doing this again, Jones?"
"No, we are not. I need to go get a change of clothes, I'll be right back," he said and hurried to the front door. When it was opened, I took a quick glimpse outside, and it was already snowing hard. About 3 inches covered the ground already.
After about 5 minutes, Sam came back with a change of clothes.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" he asked as soon as he stepped back inside.
"Yeah, I guess," I replied.
"Sweet! I have the best movie!"
I laughed. "Settle down," I said and shook my head, smiling. It was so easy having fun with him, and that kind of stuff doesn't just happen to everyone.
"You get the snacks and I'll get the blankets," he said and sprinted off into the living room. I chuckled and walked over to the kitchen. After about 2 minutes of deciding what I should get, I finally got nutella, popcorn, chips, soda, and ice cream. I went into the living room and was surprised at what Sam had did. He had laid out blanket upon blanket to make a giant mattress on the ground along with mountains of pillows.
"Pretty good, eh?" Sam said and spread out his hands.
"Well done," I said and nodded to him.
"Why, thank you," he replied and bowed.
"Oh, I almost forgot! We need to change into our pajamas," I said and put down the food in the middle of it all, then sprinted upstairs to my room.
"I'll just change down here!" Sam called from downstairs as I pulled off my jeans and slipped on some loose fitting sweatpants. I switched out the T-shirt for a more comfortable black one, combed threw my hair once more, and then went back downstairs.
When I came down, Sam was putting in a CD, wearing sweatpants and no shirt. I couldn't help but blush. TOTALLY IRRELEVANT.
"So what movie did you choose?" I asked him. He turned around to face me.
"Just trust me, you'll like it," he said.
"Ok, I trust you," I said skeptically and went to turned off the light except two lamps. Once done, I laid down in the mattress of blankets and stared at the screen as it read the word "Mama" in a creepy font.
"Really Sam! A horror movie?" I exclaimed.
"What?! It's good and it isn't even scary!" he said.
"Saaaaaaaam," I groaned.
"Don't worry, you'll like it," he said and moved closer so that he was laying down right next to me. "And if you get scared, I'll protect you."
The movie started, and after about 5 minutes of it, I was pretty scared, and I don't get scared that easily. Whenever there was a pop out, I would bury my head into Sam's chest, and he would hold me until I looked up again.
After about 45 minutes, the snow was becoming a full on blizzard. It was thudding against the windows and the roof, and I was starting to get worried.
And that's when the power went out. The lights, the movie. Everything. It, of course, had to be at the scariest part of the movie, making me shriek like a little girl and cling onto Sam for dear life. My arms were wrapped around his torso, and I was holding him tightly to my chest. I was breathing heavy from fear.
"Carter, Carter, it's alright, the power just went out because of the snow," he said reassuringly.
"I-I know, that just scared me," I said into his bare chest. I felt his strong arms snake around my waist.
"You're fine," he whispered. We stayed like that, our bodies intertwined, until we fell asleep.
