Egg cells and sperm cells are gametes (sex cells).
There features:Egg cells-
1) A haploid nucleus: This contains one set of genetic material.
2) Cytoplasm: This contains nutrients, including lipid droplets.Sperm cell-
1) Haploid nucleus: This contains the other set of genetic material needed for fertilisation.
2) A tail, needed for swimming.
3) Acrosome- Containing enzymes to digest a way into the egg cell.
4) The middle section- This contains mitochondria to release energy for respiration.>During fertilisation, sperm cell burrows into an egg cell.
> When the sperm cell enters the egg cell, the membrane of the egg cell changes so no more sperm nuclei can enter.
> The sperm and egg cell fuse and the result is called a zygote.
> The zygote is diploid and divides repeatedly to form an embryo. The embryo then embeds itself into the uterus lining to grow and develop.
