I think this is one of the most worded answers I have ever seen. I would suggest just remember the answer and the different parts of the question.
Explain how the menstrual cycle is controlled by hormones and negative feedback (6 marks).
-Menstrual cycle consists of menstruation, uterus lining thickening and ovulation.
- Hormones involved are Oestrogen, Progesterone, FSH and LHRoles of hormones:
-FSH stimulates the follicle to mature
-FSH stimulates the production of Oestrogen
-Follicles secrete progesterone
-Progesterone is responsible for the repair of the uterus wall
-High levels of oestrogen stimulates the release of LH
-LH triggers ovulation
-Corpus Luteum produces progesterone
-Progesterone maintains the lining of the uterus.Control Mechanism:
-Oestrogen inhibits the production of FSH
-Progesterone inhibits the production of LH
- Menstruation is triggered by low levels of oestrogen and progesterone
-Low levels of progesterone cause FSH to be released.
