Remus Lupin:

"I was praying you and me might end up together..."

Finding out about you and Sirius nearly killed him. Remus firmly believed Sirius wasn't the one for you; You were complete opposites that never seemed right for one another. He loved Sirius like a brother, but Remus couldn't help himself: Padfoot didn't deserve you. You were so kind and intelligent...you were the most beautiful creature he had ever met both inside and out. Sirius was reckless and in some ways he was dangerous. He was a bit of a bad influence and had quite the reputation of being a ladies man, and the last thing Remus wanted was for you to get hurt at the hands of his best friend. Your friendship with Remus had blossomed in to a beautiful partnership over the past few years, and soon Remus found himself wanting something more than what you already had. Remus had fallen hard and fast, and there was no turning back afterwards. You could do no wrong in his eyes, and you were the first person to ever fully embrace him wholeheartedly. His condition was nothing but a small fraction of what made him extraordinary in your eyes, and you managed to be there for him when no one else was. You had seen him through his worst nightmare every month; The panic attacks, the painful morning after, the breakdowns, the fear...you stayed with him through it all. He hated you seeing him that way, but it never made you think any less of him. In fact, it made you admire him more for his strength and bravery. He considered you a blessing heaven sent to him, though he had no idea what he did to deserve someone like you in his life. He loved you, and he planned on confessing his feelings tonight...until you had an unexpected announcement. "Sirius and I have been dating for a few weeks, Remus," You said with a smile, feeling a blush creep on to your cheeks at the mere thought of him, "And...I-I think I love him." Remus could feel his heart shatter inside his chest the moment you said those three words. I love him. It took all of his strength not to grab you by the shoulders and kiss you right then and there as if to change your mind. In a perfect world he could confess his feelings and you would say that you loved him too, but now there was no way he could follow through with his original plan. As much as it pained him, seeing you happy was the only thing that mattered. He cared too much about you to peruse his own selfish wishes. "I..." He was at an utter loss for words, feeling a lump form in his throat. He thought out his words carefully, taking extra caution not to let his voice tremble or break. "...I think you should tell him, then. I am so happy for you, (Y/N)." You gently placed your hand on his, a large grin spreading across your face. "Thank you, Remus, for being so supportive of us," All he could manage was a weak smile, feeling as if his heart had just been ripped from his chest, "I love you, Moony." Those four words made his heart ache desperately, and he couldn't help but wonder if those words would have had a different meaning if he would have just told you how he felt sooner. However, the painful longing in his words were lost to you. "I love you too, (Y/N)."
