I wrestled with the idea, going back and forth. I even made a list of the pros and cons of accepting his offer. I ate lunch in my corner of the cafeteria, just like I always have, and decided that I was going to tell him my answer.

I regretted that decision the whole time I was walking to the band room. I knew he hung out there with his friends when they were done eating. I turned the corner and walked down the hall and saw four of them. Why do they have to be in packs? I was getting really nervous. Did someone turn off the A/C? I stood just outside the door, just out of sight, for a few minutes calming myself down before I got my courage up to talk to him. My one goal in high school was to be invisible, and I had thought I was doing a fine job. This decision was a big one.
I opened the door and went right up to him. His friends got quiet as soon as they saw me.

"Hey," he said with that silly grin on his face. "I just thought I would let you know that I finished that drawing." I said with all the confidence I could muster. His face changed almost immediately when he realized what I meant.

"Are you sure? You can't undo this you know." He said as he put his hands on my shoulders. This was impossible, was Gilbert actually making sure I was okay with this?
"Yeah, I know" I replied to the ground. I could feel the warmth of his hands on my shoulders through my t-shirt.

"Look at me, please" his friends had lost interest and had moved over by the drum set of the other side told the room. "Anne, I don't want you to do this if i makes you feel uncomfortable. I want you to do it because you want to." God, he looks cute when he is concerned.

I looked straight into his eyes, "I think it is time to get out of my comfort zone a little bit, and I trust you won't push me too far."
"Thank you, Anne." I don't know, but I could have sworn that I saw relief in his eyes. "Hey guys, come meet our newest member of the group, Anne Shirley."
