"Anne," Gil nudged my head to wake me up. I started to become aware of my surroundings as I opened my eyes. I looked up to see Gil's face looking down at me, smiling. I had a blanket over the majority of my body, and I was glad. Even though it was early April, the nights were still chilly. I sat up as the car lights turned on.
"We can unload tomorrow, go home and get some sleep." Matt ordered as Gil got out of the car. I got out after him and thanked Matt for the ride before getting into Gil's car.
Gil got in and turned the radio up almost half way, so it could help him 'stay awake,' I didn't mind. It had been a long day for all of us, and we were all gaveling troubles staying awake.
He pulled into an empty driveway around 3 am. His parents had gone to a party out of town and left his siblings with Grammie Blythe for the weekend, so it was just us. He came around to my side of the car to open the door for me. We walked up to his room in a companionable silence, both too tired to attempt conversation. When we got up to his room, he shut the door quietly and turned to face me. He ran his hands through his messy hair and smiled.
He was smiling at my attempt to get my dress off, I was trying to hard to untie it that I didn't see a show on the ground. My foot caught and I could feel myself falling towards his hardwood floor, my hand eye coordination had never been very fast, I thought I was going to hot the floor just when he caught me, still smiling.
"I know you've fallen head over heels for me Anne, but now is not the time to show it," he tease as he helped me to my feet, "do you need help?" It was meant as a question, but he didn't give me any time to answer, he just reached around be back and started to loosen the ties of my dress, one by one. He had the majority of it loosened enough to slide off, I decided not to stop it.
The lights were still off, the only light on the room was coming from his bathroom, yet that didn't make a difference. As soon as the dress hit the floor he looked away. Even in the light I could still see his blush.
I brought my hands up to his face and kissed him. When he finally put his arms around my waist, I slid my focus to his shirt. He had already taken his vest and tie off in the car, so that was less to worry about. As I unbuttoned the last one, he pulled away.
"Anne..."
"It doesn't have to go anywhere," he was visibly nervous; his hands were shaking.
"I just don't...I'm not ready." He looked away, almost as though he was ashamed to say it.
"I just thought I would return the favor, you helped me, so now it's my turn." He relaxed once I said it, and stepped closer to me to kiss me again, this time harder, he picked me up and placed me on his bed. He stood up to finish what I had started. I watched as he tossed his shirt across the room, and then his pants. Even in the dim light I could see him, he looked more built than the last time I saw him, like he had been working out. I almost asked him before he laid next to me and pulled the covers over us. He drew me in close and continued kissing me.
Eventually, he pulled me into his chest and fell asleep. I laid there taking it all in for a moment, the feeling o his strong arms wrapped around me, the faint remains of his cologne, the steadiness of his breathing. I could have stayed there forever.
