I woke up to a sudden thump coming from the main floor. I sat bolt upright in the bed, Gil was already at his door with a pair of sweats on and a baseball bat in his hand. He threw me one of his hoodies and signaled for me to be quiet and opened the door. I pulled the hoodie over my head and cowered in his bed.
There was a sudden crash from the kitchen that made Gil jump. Whatever was making the racket was getting closer to the back stairs, the ones that come up right in front of his room.
"Go to the bathroom, hide under the sink and do t make any noise." Gil kissed my cheek and helped me out of the bed. We hurried more when we heard the intruder coming up the stairs. I was at the bathroom door when I heard the click of a gun.
"Don't move." I froze in my tracks, Gil's grip got tighter on my arm. My back was still facing the gun man, but Gil's wasn't. "Give me my Baby-cakes."
I didn't need to turn around to know who it was. He is the only person to ever call that. My blood ran cold as ice when I heard the wooden floor freak under his weight. Gil took a step back to me, so our backs were touching. His hand got tighter the closer Luke got, the other hand still holding the baseball bat.
"I know you can hear me Baby-cakes, come here before I put a bullet in your boyfriends head," he was close, "besides, he is all you have left now."
"What the hell did you do!?" I ducked under Gil's arm to attack him and was immediately grabbed by Gil. His arm was stronger than it used to be, that I was sure of.
Luke laugh was menacing as his aim went immediately to my head. "Lets just say that you won't have to worry about going home, unless you enjoy ashes." I lunged at him, but Gil wouldn't loosen his grip. "Your parents didn't have any last words, unless you count the screaming. But don't worry, their death was mostly painless, one single shot to the head was all it took."
By this time Gil had dropped his bat to try to restrain me. I was clawing at his arms, which were now around my waist. Luke was smiling, like he was enjoying this.
"Don't worry, your friend won't die if you come with me."
The gun in his hand was still pointed at my head. Gil's arms got tighter around my waist, pulling me closer to him.
"You will never get her," Gil sneered as he pushed me back. I tried resisting, but he shoved me Ito the bathroom and slammed the door. I ponded against it, trying to make him open it back up, but he wouldn't.
Tears were burning my cheeks. I knew I had to get out, to call for help, but what if Gil got hurt? I couldn't just leave him, but I had to. I locked the door and started opening the window. I had it open enough to climb through when I heard two shots fired, and then a thud. I turned around to make sure none I them made their way through the door. That's when the third shot was fired.
I felt a hot pain in my chest, searing through to my very core. I felt a hot liquid running down my body. I was too scared to look, I knew I had been shot.
The banging on the door brought me back to the present. I had to get out. I turned around and climbed out the window and onto the porch roof. I felt really dizzy, but I had to get out. I thanked God that Gil's dad left the ladder out from when he was cleaning gutters. I climbed down the ladder as quickly as I could, I was almost to the ground when I lost my grip and wet plummeting to the ground, and hit with a loud thud. I could still hear Luke pounding on the bathroom door.
I looked around, trying to think of a plan, instead I saw the sun just starting to peek over the houses. It was morning, morning meant people were awake. I was just about the scream when I heard a car coming down the road. I turned my head to try to catch a glimpse of the vehicle, it was Mrs. Blythe's mInivan.
I heard a crash come from the house as Luke broke the door. It only took him a few seconds to get to the roof. My vision was becoming blurry, and I couldn't think straight. I saw a figure climb nimbly down the ladder and rush to me. The world was starting to spin, I closed my eyes to keep from getting sick.
"Baby-cakes, you weren't supposed to get hurt. What an idiot, I'm such am idiot! I'm so sorry, I'm sorry. Wake up Baby-cakes, please wake up." Luke was sobbing over me, shaking me, doing everything he could to try to wake me up. I tried opening my eyes, but they were just too heavy.
I heard a car door slam, and then a woman screaming.
"Put your hands where I can see them and step away from the girl," I could hear the cops voice loud and clear.
"No, she's mine, you can't touch her! I have to save her!" Luke was delirious. He had picked me up and was hugging me. Every part of me that he touched was burning.
"Stand up and back away from her now, I don't want to shoot you." The officers voice had gotten closer.
"Stay away! Come any closer and Ill shoot! Stop!" I felt one of Luke's arms moving, his whole body was shaking by now.
"We can talk this out calmly, I need you to put down your gun-" the officer was cut off by a shot.
I felt Luke's body go limp as he fell to the ground. The officer rushed over to our bodies to confirm that we were dead.
"Someone call a bus, she's still alive!" He exclaimed after feeling my pulse, I weakly opened my eyes to confirm it.
"He's...up...stairs..." I struggled to talk.
"Don't worry, everything is going to be fine now." The officers voice was soothing, almost calming.
The last thing I remember is Mrs. Blythe screaming.
