Derek's P.O.V

I got into Danny's car and started it up, the purr of the engine gets me every time. Its relaxing hum could lull me into a deep sleep if I let it. Too bad I had plans with a certain beautiful girl, no time for sleeping. Just as I threw it into reverse my cell lit up bathing the inside of the car in a bright white light. I looked down and saw it was a text from Liz. Smiling I clicked open in a hurry to read her message.

'Hey I'm sorry but I won't be able to hang out tonight. Sorry to cut it on such short notice. I'll call you and explain later tonight.'

My smile instantly turned into a frown. I wonder why she had to cancel. I dreaded going back into the house so I waited a few minutes before cutting the engine and heading back to my house not looking forward to the thousand questions I am going to receive from Danny. I opened the front door and he was standing there with his hands on his hips.

"I thought you were leaving?" He asked with raised eye brows. I closed the door behind me and went into the living room with him hot on my heels.

"Dude, just drop it okay?" I said. I was already in a bad mood and I really didn't need him hounding me.

"No, I'm not going to 'Just drop it'." He said using air quotes, "Why'd she cancel?" He asked taking a seat on the sofa.

I plopped down next to him. "I don't know. She just text me she had to cancel and she'd call me later telling me why." I said with a frown.

"Dude this is the perfect time! Let's go to her house and see what she is up to!" He practically shouted while jumping up and down clapping his hands like a child. Who is the oldest again?

"No I'm not going to spy on her! I'm tired of your crap man. Just leave her alone. She probably has a good reason why she can't hang out." I replied.

"Yeah just like all her other good reasons she gave you. It's all a bunch of shit man! She has an excuse for everything. When you went to her house the other day did you see any pictures of her family?"

"No but..." I started to say.

"Exactly! What kind of family doesn't have at least one picture of them! Plus what was with her answering the door all frazzled out?" He asked sternly.

"I don't know okay?! Like I said there is a reason she is the way she is. Seriously, drop it man, you’re really starting to piss me off." I said standing up. I really just wanted to go to bed.

"I'm not going to stop! I don't like this girl at all and I'm not going to just sit here and let you get hurt. This is bull shit that you’re not on my side!" He said angrily. He walked over to the front door and got his coat.

"I'm going to the hospital to go hang out with dad." He said and opened the door. I just gave him a hateful glare.

"You know Stacey was never this complicated." He said before he stepped out the door and slammed it behind him. I was slightly dumb founded by his words. I don't know why he would even bring Stacey's name into this.

I made my way to my room and lay down on my bed. I made sure I turned the volume up all the way before I started to drift off into sleep.

“I don't understand why you would do this to me Derek!” She cried.

“It's not even true Stace! I don't know why you are believing all the rumors over me! You know I wouldn't do this to you.” I said in frustration.

“If it’s not true then why is everyone saying it is huh?” She said with tears in her eyes.

“You were at the party with me! Why would I do that to you? It's all just a misunderstanding. I didn't even know the girl.” I shouted and watched as the tears streamed down her face.
