“Polaris… can we talk.” Manny stood in the middle of the door, blocking Polaris’ entry.

“Why would I talk to you Manny. I gave you a chance once and you ruined it. I don’t want to give you a chance. You managed to brake of everything that I ever felt to you. I do not see any understandable reason to talk to you besides the respectful ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ Now if you do not mind, I would like to enter the mansion and go to my chamber.”

“I can let you through, but you have to talk to me.”

“What about? About any other ways you can lose my trust?” Her voice was harsh.

“I never meant to…”

“I know you did not, but you lost it…” Polaris looked at her tiny feet. They were sticking out of her long dress… “What is it?” She looked at Manny. He was surprised at the change in the girl. She put the hatred away from her eyes, as if she remembered something good.

“I… Please, come into the lounge room.” he let her go through and followed her into a blue decorated room. It was quite modern, to modern for Polaris. She never spend much time in there. She usually sat closed up in her room or outside the moon.

“What do you want to talk to me about?” Polaris sat on the soft, midnight blue sofa and looked at Manny who sat next to her.

“I want to apologize. I shouted at you without explaining why… why you can not go to the Earth… I figured that there is a bigger possibility of you being sensible if I tell you why…”

“I’m listening.” Polaris felt Manny’s hand close over hers.

“When I chose you as a star, I bounded you to the moon. You are the life of the North star and where ever you are, the star is. Since you were on the moon, the star is on the sky… If… If you went to the Earth, it would change.”

“I don’t understand.” She shook her head while looking at the man.

“There is a rule for creatures like Kaguya, you, and me. We are different. If we leave the moon, part of us changes.”

“I still do not understand what you mean Manny…”

“If you leave the moon you will not be the star anymore.” Polaris took a fast breath and opened her eyes wider… How could she not be the north star?

“Permanently?” Her voice was full of fear of her life if it changed.

“No… ” She let a breath out. “At least I do not think so… But it is very dangerous. You would get weak and each day would begin to kill you off… If you would stay on Earth to long or use to much of your life, you would disappear into a space. The star would be gone, you would be gone, and the glow of the moon dust would slightly darken. It is dangerous not only to you, but to all of us.”

“So the star would disappear only when I die?”

“No… The star would be gone for as long as you are away. If you die, it would be gone forever. If you come back, it will reappear.”

“So I could go there and come back?”

“You…. Oh, Polaris don’t you understand that your disappearance would disturb the order of things? It really would. Without a good reason, you can not leave.” He held her hand tighter to assure her about his words. he knew she understood. He felt a connection he was afraid he lost years ago…

“Why didn’t you tell me before?” She asked gently. She felt like a part of her was breaking… She did not know how to help Emma get back and she knew that she would never meet Shade… She started to feel lonely and only Manny’s hand assured her of her place.
