 Chapter 14: Coming To Terms

POV: Carson.

I walked into my dads study. My mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of Riley. I didn’t like the thought of her being near that vampire. At least, that’s what I thought he was. I couldn’t really identify his scent. It just smelled like danger. Not to mention he had some weird pull on women. For now I wouldn’t fight because I wanted Riley’s party to be perfect, but if something went wrong I swear I’ll rip his throat out. He better not even think about touching her. I sighed and tried to reach Riley’s thoughts but they were blocked. I hated that about her, her nomad wasn’t in full control yet. She was still so human.

“Carson.” My father spoke quietly.

“Where have you been?” He asked the hurt seeping through his voice.

I looked at my dad. I was pretty much the spitting image of him. He was tall and muscular with tan skin and pale blue eyes. His black hair now salt and pepper, his age process had finally started. He would age like a normal human now, so would my mother. After all they’ve had 100 years of youth.

“Father, it’s a long story. I just request, you be open minded.” I said.

My father smiled sympathetically and walked over to me, he pulled me into a hug.

“Son, I know what happen. What I meant, is why you didn’t come to me in the first place.” He said looking at me confusion in his eyes.

I sighed.

“Dad, I thought Ben was dead. I thought you would hate me for letting Ben get in over his head. I know you always said I had to take care of him.” I said letting my head fall.

He sighed.

“Carson, I know I’ve put a lot of responsibility in you. Your brother doesn’t have a clear view of right from wrong. You did from a young age; I know it wasn’t your job to protect him. I thought you could show him the way to the right path. Lord knows my lectures never did.” My dad said ushering me to a seat.

I nodded.

He smiled.

“I’m glad you are home son. I have missed you.” He said nodding.

I smiled.

“I missed all of you too.” I said honestly.

He chuckled.

“It’s funny, you always hated this house. It’s funny how much home it feels like when your gone.” He stated.

I smiled.

“You have no idea!” I said honestly.

He nodded.

“Your mom says you brought home a girl?” He said raising his eye brow.

I smiled thinking about Riley. The way she woke up in the morning with that sleepy smile. The way she smelled like honey and vanilla, and the way her brown eyes twinkled when she smiled.

“Yes. Her name is Riley.” I said.

He nodded and slide a file across the desk.

“I know who she is. I knew who she was when she was a baby. Read that in your spare time.” He said.
