Eclipses

(This memory is a little foggy for me, so sorry if I don't get it right)

It was the night after I had gotten my acceptance letter for University, and I was extremely confused. For some reason, I thought that drinking would help. I probably thought this because I was learning from you: learning to be careless and sloppy.

It was the night of the lunar eclipse, and it was just me and you and the beer at your house. We were sitting in the yard, patiently waiting, and drinking to our heart's content.

"Do you love me, Kathleen?" You asked, just as drunk as I was. My heart fluttered a bit at this, but I sighed, knowing that you meant in the sane way you always did.

"Yes. Do you love me, James?"

"Mmhm. I love you because you will never leave me."

"James, I'm going to University." I said, sighing.

"When?" You asked calmly.

"Soon."

"That's okay. I still love you." That's when the tears started to flow down my face.

"I'm going to miss you so much James." I said, wrapping my arms around you. I felt hot tears on my shoulder, and I knew that you were crying too.

After an eternity, we let go of each other, both of us wiping our tear-stained faces.

"Kathleen?"

"Yea?"

"We missed it." You said, pointing up at the sky.

Now, whenever I hear about an eclipse, it brings back bittersweet memories that are too much to handle.
