Preference - Someone Close To You Dies

Dan: You had just had a very upsetting call from the hospital. Your mother had just passed away from cancer. She had been fighting it for a year but she lost her fight last night. The doctor had said that she had died peacefully and that her last words were 'tell Y/N that I love her'.

You were still crying and you heard Dan walk into the room. He immediately rushed to your side and pulled you into his side.

"What's wrong babe? Are you hurt?" Dan said as he soothingly rubbed your back.

"I'm not hurt physically just emotionally." You told him.

"Why?" Dan asked you.

"You know how I said to you that my mom has cancer." You started.

"Yes." Dan replied.

"Well last night she lost her fight and passed away. The doctor said that she died peacefully. I just wish that I was there for her when she passed away. I am the only one left for her and I wasn't there for her." You said as you began to cry into Dans shoulder.

"I am so sorry to hear about that babe. It wasn't your fault. You weren't to know that she would pass away last night." Dan told you.

"I just feel that I could have done more to help her." You told Dan.

"There wasn't anything that you could have done to prevent or help your mother." Dan told you.

"I'm sorry to have ruined your day with me crying." You apologised to Dan.

"You should never apologise for your emotions. You haven't ruined my day at all. I am glad that I am able to help you and if you ever need anything no matter how silly just come and find me and I'll try to sort it out or try and help you sort it out." Dan told you.

"Thank you Dan. Thank you for everything that you do for me. I truly mean it." You tell Dan.

"No problem." He told you.

Phil: You had just heard from your best friends mother that your best friend had taken her own life.

You held you head in your hands and began to cry. You felt so upset that she hadn't listened to you the night before as you tried to talk her out of doing it.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Phil says as he ran into the bedroom.

He sat next to you on the bed and held your hands in his.

"My friend just committed suicide and I tried to stop her last night but I wasn't able to and feel so guilty that I didn't do more to help her." You told Phil.

"It wasn't your fault, you don't control your friend. When I was younger my friend passed away and it crushed me because we were so close." Phil told you.

"How did you cope with the loss?" You asked Phil.

"I surrounded myself with people who cared about me and who I cared about." Phil told you.

"I've got you?" You tell Phil.

"Of course you've got me. You will always have me. If you ever need anything I'm here for you. Remember, it wasn't your fault. You helped her all that you could. I love you so so much." Phil tells you.

"I'm here for you as well Phil if you ever need me. Thank you for helping me. I love you too." You told him.

You then kissed Phil and fell asleep snuggled in his warm, protective arms.
