They don't know about the up all nights

They don't know I've waited all my life

Just to find a love that feels this right

Baby they don't know about, they don't know about us

We were sitting in the lobby of my apartment waiting for the girls. We didn't really want to rent a limo because that would be kind of cliché and a party bus was just plain weird, so we decided to just go in the van; you know the one that Travis and Connor have. Rachel kept on beating Travis at video games (she was surprisingly really good), so Travis just decided that he and Katie were going to be our chauffeurs for the night. I bet Connor was miserable right now. Anyways, they were waiting in the front of my building, no doubt wondering where we were. Who knew girls could take so long to get ready.

Jason, being the honorable one, told us that we should be there early in the unlikely event that the girls would be early. Of course, we all complained, but I didn't want to risk getting sucker punched in the face. The suit that I was wearing to so uncomfortable because I was so used to my normal t shirt, hoodie and jeans. Riptide was in my pocket, since it was my lucky pen, and I made sure to keep it there and hoped that it would help me with my dance moves, which were pretty darn bad. Jason kept flipping this coin into the air, while Leo was fiddling around with some sort of contraption that seemed to blink on and off. Frank was just sitting there looking all calm and cool, but he kept tapping his fingers on his knees like something bothered him. It was probably the fact that he was attending his first Goode dance, even though he and Hazel enrolled two days ago.

Paul had come by earlier to make sure that we all knew the important stuff for tonight, like how to dance and how to tie a double Windsor. Both of those things needed a little work, but most of the evening would be fun, crazy, free style dancing, not slow dancing that would ensure some toes stepped on. We knew because we all had picked out the music for Homecoming even though we were all in different grades. Don't ask how. I don't even know myself. Each song had a special meaning in our lives. Most people wouldn't understand and think it was a random assortment, but we all understood.

Our suits were another thing entirely. For some reason we had agreed with the girls to have matching outfits, which was pretty simple since we bought all our stuff at the same store. Oh, my feet still hurt from shopping. Leo wore a coral bowtie and suspenders (which were hidden under his suit jacket that he planned to take off as soon as possible). Frank had a cobalt blue vest under his suit jacket with a gold tie. Nico had a dark grey shirt with a black tie under his black suit. I had an aqua tie and aqua converse instead of dress shoes. Finally Jason had a minty blue and silver stripped tie to match his girlfriend.

It had taken forever, trying to each to something different and unique, but finally settled on what they were now wearing. Silena had made us change back and forth so she could inspect every last detail and make sure everything was perfect. It was kind of sad that she and Beckendorf couldn't make it. Leo (a bit like the 11th Doctor) thought that bowties were cool and he always wore suspender, so no surprise. Frank, being the guy he was, was formal all the way. Nico wore a different coloured shirt to make a subtle yet different change, though I still thought that grey was just a lighter shade of black. I had my tie and being the sassy person I was, wore matching converse to prove to the world how much of a rebel I was. And Jason decided to keep it simple with the matching two-tone tie.

We looked at the clock often to find that the hands hadn't moved much. We were all impatient and all thinking the same thing. "Why do girls always take so long to get ready?" Not one of us had an answer to thing, but still thought about it. Leo had gone so far as to think of building a machine that could get you ready for a dance in less than five minutes, but that could always backfire. Each one of us was holding a box that contained our date's corsages, each matching the girl it was to be given to. I still didn't understand why a someone would need to put a bunch of flowers on a bracelet, but whatever. After what seemed like eternity the elevator doors opened to reveal the girls.
