Annabeth Chase

The next morning, I sat at the breakfast table with Beryl, Thalia and Jason. I was so mad at that Rachel. Next time I saw her, I would spot her weakness and then use it against her in some sort of elaborate prank that she would be too dumb to see was happening to her. That's how I dealt with bullies at my old school. After I totally doused this girl named Nancy Bobofit in neon pink paint, she never messed with my friends or me again. I mean, she didn't exactly know that it was me, but I was the only person intelligent enough in our school to be able to pull it off. Anyways, Beryl wasn't really mad at us, which was a little weird, but comforting at the same time.

"Honestly, I don't blame you. I'd beat the schist out of Rachel Elizabeth Dare, too." Beryl sighed before eating her plate of eggs.

"I hope she gets kicked off the squad. Then she'll stop bragging about how she was "voted" the captain," Thalia said, twirling her eggs with her fork. "Or maybe I will."

"Don't worry Thals. I'm sure you'll stay on the squad. After all, she was the one who started it," Beryl reassured. "Hey Annabeth, do you want to try out for the squad. It'll be a good way for you two to bond."

Jason ate a mouthful of his eggs then wiped his mouth with a napkin. "Do you want to? It would be cool. I think that you'd be pretty good."

To tell you the truth, once I actually made a cheerleading squad. My friend Lou dared me try out. Of course I said no, but she insisted. And, I said no again. Then she used reverse phycology on me, and somehow, I ended up trying out. I should've seen it coming, but I was so caught up in proving to her that I was athletic enough, that I didn't know what trick she was playing. Anyways, I might have made it on the team, but then I told the head cheerleader that I didn't want to actually be on the team afterwards. That's the end of the story.

"Maybe," I told her. Maybe it would be cool. Maybe.

"Cheerleader tryouts are in the spring," Thalia said as she ate her eggs.

"Well, thanks for breakfast mom," Jason said wiping his mouth with his napkin. Wow, he was a fast eater.

I scarfed down my eggs with Thalia and then stood up.

"Thanks Beryl," I said the same time Thalia said, "Thanks mom." We shared a smile and grabbed our backpacks. Jason was already waiting by the door with a bored look on his face. He was on his phone probably checking his messages.

"Finally," he said sarcastically. "It's like I've been waiting all morning."

We all filed out of the door and went down the elevator like I have done pretty much every morning. When we were at the lobby, I smiled at the doorman, who didn't seem to notice and then walked with Thalia to Jason's Hummer. We loaded our backpacks into the trunk and then sat in the leather seats.

"Alright, let's hit the road," Jason said adjusting the rear view window.

Thalia nodded while tapping away at her iPhone, I think texting some girl named Artemis. Jason put in his earphones, listening to music. I looked down at my hands in silence. I twiddled my thumbs and wished I had a phone like them, but wishing was too much for me right now. Maybe I could get a job somewhere. I thought about it long and hard and soon enough, we arrived at the school.

~oOo~

I can't believe I'm saying this, but classes were a little boring so I didn't really pay attention. I mostly learned all of this stuff before and even corrected the teacher a few times. Most of the time I liked school, but today was just plain boring. At least lunch was a tad more interesting. I had the chance to read the Troy book that I didn't get to finish last day.
